Still at Eastleigh at the moment but its emergence is imminent.Ta muchly! I assume 545 is out by now?
Blue as in the original artist's impressions would be better still. They should have ditched the orange grab rails though, it still reminds me of Stagecoach SWT !
yellow would look much better!
Or even grey/ white would work.Blue as in the original artist's impressions would be better still.
Problem with white is keeping them looking clean.Or even white would work.
That's trueProblem with white is keeping them looking clean.
South Western Railway (SWR) has completed the £70m refurbishment of Desiro trains as final train enters passenger service.
The rail operators’ £70m upgrade programme started in December 2017 and has seen the modernisation of all 172 Class 444 and 450 trains.
The restoration of the fleet supports ongoing measures to improve onboard experience for customers travelling long-distance between London Waterloo, Weymouth, Poole and Portsmouth stations.
The final train, a Class 450, joined the existing Desiro fleet last week (Jan 9) offering better interiors, cutting edge features, better Wi-Fi, charging tables and power socks, refreshed toilets and ergonomically designed seats for a more comfortable journey.
The refurbishment, completed by the train’s original manufacturer, Siemens, brings 1,305 additional seats to SWR’s standard class as well as trains fit for the future.
That number (1305) for additional standard class seats is suspiciously low. There’s 127 450s and 45 444s involved, that suggests an average increase of less than 8 per train.

I suspect 1305 is the 444s only - they were originally due for an increase of 33 each, but that was slightly reduced in the end...
Going by the numbers in the franchise agreement, there should be about another 3600 across the 127 x 450s, the 450/5s alone got over 40 seats each...

I’m not sure what the final decision was about the 444 bike spaces to be honest, I haven’t been keeping track. When we discussed it a couple of times previously I thought some trains were not done, but I probably missed a finalised proposal.Sorry to be pedantic, but with the 2 tip up seats being installed into each of the bike spaces, does that not technically give you the 4 seats that would have gone round a table opposite a small loo?

1305/45 is 29. I think that might reflect the franchise spec number (33) less the bike space. So the magazine may have just used duff info about the 444 from some earlier some transitional stage. Not sure how that figure has came to be. Each 444 has gained 34 seats, with 45 units, making the 444s a gain of 1,530 seats. Already higher than the quoted figure.
34 seats includes the four seats now in the bike areas.
The ex 450/5s have not had the bins removed when they originally became high density units reinstated. That means they only have bins between the back to back seats, and not by the doors.I'm on a 450 and I can't see any bins
They're the same seats, in standard at least?ergonomically designed seats for a more comfortable journey
Problem with white is keeping them looking clean.
Problem with white is like blue unfortunately due to the PRM regs they would both blend in too much with the rest of the existing colour scheme. Shame though as discussed, orange is ugly but until a permanent acceptable colour is found we are stuck with orangeThat's true
