It's not the numbers so much that's the issue it's locations. People hoping for certain depots may be out of luck

There's also going to be new routes planned, with all this added on to the fact that GTR were already under subscribed for fully qualified drivers.

The best way to remove the need for qualified Drivers is to reduce the establishment. If your depot is 100 Drivers and you are under subscribed at 90 then if you reduce the establishment to 90 then you are no longer under subscribed.

Bedford is reducing by quite a fair bit.

Cant see the problem myself.

Keep up the optimism. You have passed and may still be offered a position.

Like you say if Bedfords work gets scaled down it means less drivers needed. I doubt tge depots at St Albans and Luton would require more drivers. Maybe but I doubt it.

Just received an email for an application I submitted in January 16 based at Bedford. Although I have enhanced assessment passes I wasn't shortlisted.

I'm under the hour north of Bedford and the next nearest, being Luton, is just over. Will have to wait and see, I guess.

If I'm honest I think the one area they will need drivers is Kent. Gillingham and orpington are going to be shared depots with se with reduction in se work for orpington. That's why they are being offered the chance to move over.
If 140 odd drivers move from Bedford the chance of them needing any at St Albans and Luton will be very slim, that leaves Cricklewood. Don't forget there's still a lot of trainees in tge system that haven't even started their driving yet.

No offers have been made at all yet or any internal communication about new depots. Orpington and Victoria already do a fair amount of work for GTR and I can see how easy it would be to transfer over staff. The reduction in SE work will simply be the top link at Orpington losing the 319 work so its a minimal loss.

With Blackfriars closing as well. Potentially that's Cricklewood sorted already and I know a few Blackfriars Drivers are already Kent based. I've spoken to a few and they are going north to avoid the TfL takeover that's rumoured.

I certainly see a pause in recruitment until numbers are sorted and that staff movement is confirmed.

Yeah I agree with Cricklewood probably already covered but I know a lot of blackfriars drivers don't want to go back orpington way as that's where most of them came from to escape se lol.
The documentation clearly says jobs will be offered to se driver's but like you say it's probably only to cover a lot of the work they already do.
I think those to the North will have the most issues

The sundays in the working week is a touchy subject.
I know where I stand with it but unfortunately it's not the same as gtr stand.
If we do it will have to be a good old pay rise.

If they move to Sunday's being included in the working week would they need even more drivers to cover that? I presume they would.

Yeah its most likely.
Hopefully they won't bring it in though.
There's talk of split depots though so some can do the sundays amd some don't.
Obviously if you do the Sundays you'll be better off financially

Ok, cheers for the reply. Sounds like lots of potential changes on GTR's journey to their 2018 targets I've been reading about on their website.

Talk of split depots for Sundays? Is that after EMT's awful pay deal which wasn't a yes/no vote, but an 'opt in to a rubbish Sundays, with no maximum number of rostered Sundays per year, deal', or an 'opt out, but have a deal that was even worse financially and made you stuck with unfairly less annual leave if you were an ex-Central Trains driver, deal'?

I'm still confident everyone will eventually get offered a course, even if Bedford downscales they will need trainees at some point. I doubt recruitment will know, they just get fed info from managers when a course is coming up, might be worth a call though.

Well blackfriars is closing in 2018,Brighton and Bedford partial closure, new depots in Horsham Gillingham Ashford Cricklewood st Albans and Luton.

Brighton isn't having a partial closure, its just being resized. A lot of the Brighton drivers live nearer to Three Bridges so they were offered positions there if they wanted them, so there will be a reduction in drivers, but just moving them to another depot, there are quite a few services from Bedford which terminate at Three Bridges so that will be very handy for them :)

Brighton is obviously a Southern Terminal as well, and it wont amalgamate.... well I cant see that happening, despite this big GTR Umbrella were all under, it seems its still quite separate Southern/TL

I also read on the thread somewhere about Hornsey? Someone mentioned it, I spoke to a fitter from there a few weeks ago and all the fitters are going, a lot of them were offered Three Bridges I think, but for some its too far, and I have a feeling that Siemens will have there own crew for maintenance of the new 700's

Blackfriars, yes I have heard that its going, and that most will be going to Cricklewood, but this is the Railway, and those working within it will probably tell you if they say 2018 they mean 2022 or 2035 lol :)

As for the trips to Sutton from Luton, I heard a rumbling that LOROL might take that peticular route... who knows, better ask the Magic 8 Ball :D

The sutton services will start and finish at St Albans.
In relation to brighton being a partial closure I'm just using the term gtr used in the documentation they sent out.
Call it what you want but there are guys who will have to move. I've heard they still want 60 at brighton though so a fair old chunk still.

This news is devastating for us Bedford talent pool guys

It seems the driver requirement is going to be much further south & be way out of our reach (1 hour travel time) which may render us all no longer required

Very upsetting

If this is the case they should let people know and not drag it out.
