153320 (I think) has a more powerful engine and a new cab layout

There is a 150 knocking around with a totally different and new drivers seat

Most 158/7 have Cummings engines and most 158/8 have perkins

I am not sure if it is still in place but certain class 67's have/had different brake blocks for running in Scotland and were limited to 75mph

I've noticed, but not really taken note of (if you see what I mean), that some SWT 158s (maybe 159s as well?) have clearly visible bolts around the windows of one of the doors. Is there some pattern to this, or is it something randomly found on some units?

Stuff like that opens the floodgates. There is a 168 with a green London Midland 170 drivers seat in it, I assume that is the only one they had in the stores at Tyseley one evening when it was booked in for repair.

There are lots of 158s still in original formation and with their original number.

I meant 3 coach 158s!

Maybe I should write everything out so the terminally pedantic wont moan.

142014 has (or had) white numbers on the ends instead of black. Presumably a symptom of including vehicle 55555 in the set...

150228 was falling to bits inside (seats loose, windows leaking) last time I had the pleasure(?) of travelling on it...

class 171 - 171730 changed TOPS class, having started life as class 170 no. 170392....

It is also the only Turbostar unit to have worn the Southern livery twice, once when first sent to Selhurst Depot (as 170727) before being re-painted into SWT livery (as 170392) and then the second time when it went back to Southern (as 171730), though I don't believe it was ever fully registered in tops as 170727. 171727 was delivered as a 171.

FGWs 165115 has now got only one DM due to one being written off at Ladbrook Grove. I suppose it is classed as a spare rather than a unit now though.

I remember that unit rather well, had the worst vibrations of all of the SWT 170 Fleet and still retained it's Southern 'Astroturf' interior, the only SWT mods being stickers inside. You could also tell which one it was by the newer front.

There's a 175 that has an original FNW purple toilet door rather than a repainted/coated Arriva-coloured door.

There's also a 175 (possibly not the same one) which has "OPEN" and "CLOSE" on the toilet door buttons rather than < > and > <

Also in Arrivaland, there's a 153 which has darker blue handles on the backs of the seats.

Finally, there's one remaining oldy-styly FGW buffet carriage.

156502 is the only 156 to have gone abroad (to Holland, 1989).

170309 is the only 170 where the coach numbers don't match the unit number after it was renumbered from 170399.

150001 and 150002 are both unique because as well as being prototypes they have differences between them in very different equipment configurations behind the panels.

455750 is unique as it is the only member of its class to be renumbered. This was as a gimmick to mark the award of a British Standard mark to its home depot.

there is/was one LM 153 floating about with a Kingmoor depot sticker on one of the cab fronts

Following an open weekend at Carlisle Upperby in 1986, at least two visitors (50007 and 58017) were decorated with Kingmoor depot stickers.

There's also a 455 that had a single set of plug doors installed. I believe I read that it was a test for the universal networker project that got canned. Either way its back to sliding doors now of course. I think there's a piece on the Southern Electric Group website about it.

There were actually 2 that were fitted with different makes of plug doors but the second one had to have slots cut into the sides to fit them and the body sagged so the coach was stripped for spares, used for paint trials and then scrapped, 67400 (ex class 210) replaced it.

I think there's two with LM driver's seats - and they are better seats than any of the others. Several 168s also seem to have external cab door opening handles from c2c 357s, in metallic blue. No idea how that happened.

One of the ex-ATN 150s had something fitted which makes it sound like a bit like a steam engine. Can't remember the unit number or technical reason for it.

Wow I did not expect this thread to do so well!

Can I also apologise to the mods as I put this in the Allocations, Diagrams and Timetable thread!! This of course should have been in the Traction & Rolling Stock thread after all!! I use the AD&T thread all the time so was just used to clicking it! :P

Forgot to mention 185108 too!

LM's 323205 has LED interior lighting, it's a bit odd to experience and the interior looks rather weird from the outside.
