I've never gone to Burger King. I'm guessing they use battery reared chicken and processed foods filled with salt fat and chemicals, so I'm good ta ;)

Mods' note: split from Burger King Leeds Station

If you are a man of high principle you would need to check that the place you eat (such as many Subway cafes ) don't sell you Halal meat where the animal has its throat cut and is left to bleed to death while still conscious.

I have no issues eating Halal meat however you wouldn't catch me eating the kind of rubbish that is served in the likes of Burger King. That said why people buy over priced food at train stations is beyond me.

I really hope you're vegetarian...

Me ? No. I tried it once but couldn't hack it so, like most people, I turn a blind eye to the terrible things which happen to give me a square meal. There's a sensible and humane law which requires animals to be stunned before slaughter but incredibly this law has an exemption for Halal meat to suit the whims of certain religions.
I do have sufficient principles that if someone stood outside Subway and offered me a baguette with Halal meat for free I would take it off them and throw it in the nearest bin.

Nice to see a few others have some principles too Pinza, good on you. The way that animals suffer in the name of some religions is beyond belief in the 21st Century and should have no place in the UK. Now, back to Burger King. I don't eat much meat these days, but for some reason, perhaps once a year, the smell coming from the Glasgow Central branch of Burger King will reduce me to submission - and a bacon double cheeseburger follows.

I guess not all Subways do this, or do they? Pretty sure our local one does (or at least did)...probably due to pressure of local residents. I avoid it where possible :P

All food contains chemicals (and nothing else).

Do you think those religions should have no place in the UK or just some of their beliefs? And if they're not prepared to change their methods of killing animals would you prefer it if those religions were banned in this country? Just curious that's all.

If I say all religions should be banned imo shall I prepare to be told that I am an intolerant bigot? ;)

No not at all and in all fairness I'm not the slightest bit interested in religion but I do believe that we should all show tolerance to others and their religious beliefs.

I feel we may be told off by the mods for going onto subjects which are not supposed to be discussed here so I will say this and no more.
I think people should be free to practise religions if they wish but that no exceptions to any law should be made to accommodate those religions. The law is the law and it should apply equally to everyone all the time.

As long as you're equally happy with the same applying to 'Westerners' when we travel to other parts of the world then I agree with you.

Should we be tolerant to those who feel their religion requires barbaric acts of Sharia Law, also?

The laws of the land should hold sway in any country. Those who chose to come are entitled to bring their own religious beliefs, but not for those beliefs to overrule the laws. More importantly, nor should the side effects of those beliefs have a negative impact on existing citizens who have no wish to share them.

There is tolerance, and then there is political correctness bullsh*t.

It's okay, I've just shown everybody else why their opinion is wrong and mine is right and so now we can carry on ;) :D :D

Now then, you moderator of Bournemouth FC fame, this thread has already been split by your fellow moderators from another thread, so will we now see a split thread being split into another split thread about religious food production....:D

No-one has mentioned the Beth Din on the thread as yet I note.

When was Leeds station given this new name?

Gimme a Bacon Double Cheese XL any day of the week. I really don't care what it's made with, for I care it could be laced with arsenic and I'd still eat it.

I've no problem with other countries having their own laws even if I don't agree with them. If I was thinking of visiting another country and found that I couldn't tolerate it's laws then I wouldn't visit it.

The ethical value you get out of eating stunned animals vs not stunned is so very tiny that allowing it to actually influence your purchasing decisions... In my experience, everyone who constructs this argument is much more likely to be expressing inherent aversion to foreign custom than having any sort of care for animal welfare.

If you had any sort of concern for actual animal welfare, avoiding meat because it's Halal isn't rational behavior.

You are aware that over 80% of Halal meat slaughtered in this country is in fact stunned first?

Place a McDonald hamburger somewhere and in 1 month it will look the same. No; here in the Netherlands i am instructed to go to the Burgerking and not that other shop.

I recall reading the reason for this, which has nothing to do with the quality of it, but everything to do with it being much thinner than a BK one, and thus drying out easily, and completely dried-out food doesn't grow mould.

To be fair to BK, they do do a rather nice spicy bean burger. Wish they'd include it in their voucher offers though.

Anybody is free to follow whatever religion they like, or none at all like me, but animal cruelty is totally unacceptable whatever the reason

Years ago my mate and I stumbled off the London sleeper at Edinburgh one morning. The only breakfast available was in Burger King at the station itself and we were both underwhelmed by what we were eating that my mate actually scribbled an alternative name for BK on a napkin!
