I forgot the class 142 was a train :P
508s have a fantastic ride, 390s and 458s are really good as well.

Been on an unrefurbished 142070 Northern (former Great Western) today. A lot more cramped than the usual. It felt more like a tram than a train, I guess it's nostalgic!![]()
Yeah Heaton has been fortunate in keeping much the same allocation its' had for a good few years, in the same way as Newton Heath kept the old North West side 142s, so the regular fare is indeed the Northern Spirit 2+2 individual seating. Quality stuff, and Northern seem to be doing a better job of keeping it in a half decent state than NS and ATN did before them! Of course, there's always the odd interloper from "the other side" to bring down the standard...What the "usual" up in the North East? Is it the ex-Arriva Trains Northern ones with the green seats?

Deserters! They've been sneaking onto the East Lancs line quite a lot recently. We usually have the ones with the 3+2 bench seats...

I've noticed that too on the South Fylde Line! I do a mental cheer, the seats are so comfortable...
However, I've noticed an increase in the dreaded Mersey Pacers on the line.
The set that formed the 0740 Cherry Tree-Preston ( from there it is the 0802 to Blackpool South) was, wait for it, a 156! First one I've seen on there all year!
There was a 156 on the route this Saturday too - the 11.19 off Accrington! First one I have seen on Monday - Saturday in a very long time.
However, I have previously seen 156s on Sunday workings - albeit just on the Blackpool South - Preston runs.
I hope this is a sign of things to come! Not seen many 150s recently though.
On Saturday, the 1854 Preston-York was 2 x 153s!

It was a 2 car 144 a few months backhock:
That is extremely rare, I wouldn't have minded seeing a 144 on the Fylde Line.....
I have heard about an attempt by a 142 to do it before, a few years ago. It was replaced at Leeds apparently.
Would a 142 even make it that far?hock:

The only time I have ever seen someone use an alternative font on here. I too hate Comic Sans MS, Calibri is much better![]()
Right Thats it! I've found the worst rolling stock in the uk!!!!
The Metro-cammell 465/2/9 & 466s
In 1 week 3 trains have broken down on the medway valley line causing 14 Cancellations and Numerous delays. and on the wider scale at least 1 or 2 465/466 Networkers (Known as NOTWORKERS to many) Built by Metro-Cammell Fail And Southeastern Wont do anything about it. note the BREL/ABB 465's are built to a better standard![]()
I'm sure everybody up North would swap the 466s for 142s if they had the electrification to run them.

But would they swap them for 507s (that might have been an option once)?
[Can anyone find me Rail Alphabet?
