I was wondering too. They're still repainting 150/2s into FGW All-Over Purple. Why did they not go for GWR Green instead of the unbranded and opposite colour FGW livery?

No. the AT300s are the separate order that isn't technically part of the IEP programme.

The AT300 sets, for South West services, are a separate order to the principal Intercity Express Programme for the GWML. They will feature uprated engines and larger fuel tanks. The AT300 order has not yet been signed off.

That will be a typo for "387/1s".

Yes; the Great Western franchise is due to receive 21 class 365 units to operate electrified Thames Valley services.

29x will likely be vinyal with the time from release from GTR to GWR.

According to Informed Sources in the latest issue of Modern Railways, MTU has confirmed that there is no uprated version of the engine. Rather it is a case of the engines in the IEP trains being run below their rated output in regular service, while the AT300 engines will be run at full output.

7 x 9-car and 22 x 5-car sets, with the opportunity for "doubling up" the 5-car sets as required. If they're anything like the presently ordered Great Western sets they will have a kitchen for first class passengers, but methinks they will be lacking in luggage space, much like the current generation of "Inter-city" trains.

I can't imagine many people are looking for a train in the middle of the countryside, stations are the traditional place where people go to look for trains. The great big yellow ends and high intensity headlights should be enough to identify an approaching train from the angle of those working trackside, if that's what you're suggesting.

A shame FGW didn't keep the old green... Can't help,thinking trains will look a mess for the best part of ten years whilst the colours are gradually adjusted...uniforms sound erm interesting a bit like Asda apparently



Mind you stations such as the old Reading looked awful with green canopies and purple underneath...

Toilets air-con and overcrowding are the biggest issues solve that most customers should be very happy

That old LMS streamliner maroon and gold livery would look quite flash on a Pendolino.

Indeed, I'm not sure why First seem to have an odd aversion to it's own identity - Dynamic Lines is a bold but smart and modern look, simple (especially on the Sprinters) and very pleasing to look at. Why they then feel the need after only a few short years to change it and drop it again I don't know - the new FC inspired interiors feel as if First feels rather confused with itself, as if they regret the Michael Rodber inspired refurbishments and want to relive the previous refurbishment with Great Western Trains's Green / Ivory/Light Grey / Wood effect. They have been the smartest refurbishments carried out in years, and still bring out the best in the 143/150/2 & 153 Fleets.

I'm afraid I cannot agree - It just looks far too drab - It might look shiny in the computer render but give it a short time in service and it'll look rather dull in sunshine and drab in dull weather. I also really think it needs something to just break it's dullness up - FGW 'Fag Packet' worked well in this respect by adding the Gold stripe over the off white of GWTs base livery, Same dare I say it for Barbie and Dynamic Lines for the HSTs.

Something else Dynamic Lines on the HSTs does is hide the dirt quite well in Winter - whether or not Green will I don't know, but I'm afraid i'll be one of what will probably the few mourning the loss of Dynamic Lines.

I'm not sure what this obsession with bringing back the past is these day's either. Ok, Call it Great Western. But why try to bring back Brunel's once mighty GWR - London Midland goes by a shorter smarter name, same could really be said for Great Western.

But that's the beauty of opinions for you. If it means goodbye to the plain blue though, then shame.

Yes. (F)GW(R) would even like Temple Meads to be GWR-branded, even though it's a NR-managed station.

I used to quite like Dynamic Lines but I think it's losing it's impact now. Particularly on the darker blue of FGW. I don't really like the blue & pink combo really. I'm definitely in the 'simple, smart and classy' school of thought! FGW Fag Packet looked horrendous in my eyes but I know some liked it.
