I hope you are well.

After reviewing your home address, it’s unfortunate that you are actually out of the 40 minutes driving distance of the Ilford and Gidea Park depots.

Due to your home location being nearer to our Old Oak Common depot (Willesden), we require you to move within a 40 minutes driving distance of that depot.

If you don’t move within a 40 minutes driving distance from one of the depots, it could result in us withdrawing our informal offer to you.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Just got this, spoke with them, and i will relocate closer to gidea park, before starting my training in may,on my inital application i said i am in the 40 min, thing is i specified that i am willing to relocate in the application and at my interview, now dilema is how do you decide the 40 minutes area? 40 minutes in the morning or in traffic time? Google map says 38 miles... 59 minutes, in day time garmin says 1 hour and 5 with live trafic, in the night time it says 51 minutes , actualy had to go there once and got in 46, not braking the speed limit :))) but i will still move, i was hoping to move after my training but i will speak with hr/managers about this when i go for medical,
About the short sighted, from what i know as long as glasses can corect your problem you should be ok... Use them during exam... Color blindness can t be corected and you can t get around that... Hope it helps

Your eyesight is also tested without wearing your glasses too, eyesight has to meet a certain standard

Thanks for the replies guys. As this is the first time I am applying for a tube driver job, can someone please tell me the stages and what kind of criteria/questions/tests are done in each stage? Or refer me to online resources for more information.

Just got an e-mail from OPC saying I hadn't "met the standard they are looking for on this occasion."

Oh well. On to the next one.

As far as I understand it's only if you sat and failed any assessments that you have to wait 6 months to re-apply.

so if you fail the application stage you have to wait 6 months to apply to ANY toc?

No it's just if you fail the assessments. The application failure means I can't apply for driver role for 6 months with Crossrail. I can apply with someone else.

What stage did you get to?

It was only the online questionnaire that forms part of the application. I confirmed with Jo at OPC this was MTR Crossrail specific and doesn't form part of any assessment.

The reason you got that is because they're looking for ethnic minorities. And applying equal opportunities to their selection process. Nothing to do with your scores.

You could of scored 100% but someone else got it over you because of their "policy"

I got the same email, where did younger this information from? If that's true than that's not particularly fare considering equal ops etc ?

I got the same email too, but I put it down to either being slightly too honest in what I would do in some of the situations as I tried to make a compromise most of the time. I'm fairly sure that if they used ethnicity to filter out applicants that would be discrimination and therefore illegal.

Discrimination in the manner implied is completely unlawful so such remarks are probably unhelpful to anyone who has not got through.

If for argument's sake they had one vacancy and by the end of the entire process they had whittled it down to two candidates who scored equally throughout the process (i.e. of equal merit), but one of the candidates possessed a protected characteristic that they reasonably believed was under-represented in the role, then they could legitimately offer the job to that candidate on that basis. If however the white/heterosexual/male etc. candidate scored higher then they would have to offer the job to them.

What a load of rubbish. I received the same email and I am from a ethnic minority background. I have been in the running with two TOC's already aswell so I have an idea how to complete the form to the way they like.

Just face it that you didn't meet the standard on this occasion! The email clearly stated that they had very high numbers apply.

hi Guys, I am completely new to this site and the world of train driving. I sent my application and received notification that I need to do my Stage 2 online assessment with the next 5 days.

I have been practicing various different random Situational Judgement's online. I am interested to know (if anyone can help me), Are the questions quite long and drawn out or do they get straight to the point. I understand there are alot of questions in the space of an hour. I am absolutely nervous of not passing.

Anyone have any helpful hints and tips?

All the best fellow applicants and I hope you all do well.

I would say you don't really need to practice SJT, the whole point is to answer as honestly as possible (bearing in mind the nature of the work etc) and your answers will give them some sort of profile of your character.

Some of the answers are very similar so it's worth considering the subtle differences before you select a response but don't over think it or stress about it, it's really not hard - just make sure you've read the question properly.

Thank you so so much for getting back to me Greenyeti, are the questions just general life questions or are they based on the role?

What stage are you at?

Thank you again for coming back to me.

Hi,

Greenyeti is absolutely right, don't overthink it, they want to know about your judgement and your character whilst the situations are fairly relevant to the role, they are wide ranging. I remember answering pretty quickly as it was obvious to me which order I would place the answers in. Trust your gut and don't overthink it be honest about your answers, don't just answer what you think they would like you to - the SJT will crop up again later in the process. Good luck.

Hi, I've just received invite to visit assessment centre, for next stage. They say in the email: "we will expect you to dress professionally". What exactly that mean, a suit?

I went to all my assessments and interviews in a full suit, most others did the same. You want to give a good impression of yourself. But there were some there in jeans and t-shirts. Good luck!!

Hi Guys,

I applied for FCC 2 years ago. I had no previous experience or knowledge in the train industry. I didn't really know what to expect from the assessments, so was unsure how to prepare. However, I made it all the way to the final Manager interview. As I discovered, the assessments are to see how your brain works more so than what it knows. Being a train driver involves long periods of concentration and quick decision making skills. These (in my eyes) are not skills you can learn, you either have them or you don't. The assessments can be quite brutal - over 3/4 were sent home when I took mine. It is a stressful process, but you just have to trust in your gut as others have said. Unfortunately FCC lost their contract for the line I was applying to, so the training application was closed.

Good luck to everyone!

I went through the whole process with MTR but failed the final managers interview.
IT is highly based on if they like you or not.

I know 3 others who got the job and they messed up their questions but was overly humble and exaggerated how great the job was and it was the best job in the world in their eyes.

I was very confident in my interview abilities ( serveral years in recruitment training interviewees) but guess they didn't like my confident attitude. SO a bit of a heads up for you guys.

I have now secured a trainee role with another TOC and the interview was miles better and more personable.

Good luck to you all

Or that your answers simply weren't good enough or could that not possibly be true

More people than ever seem to be failing the final interviews and I have been there as well. Seems this is the ultimate killer now and they are all different.

I would say your right AGA seemed very good though (and gave me excellent feedback) can't comment on mtr

You come across a tad over confident though and perhaps mtr sensed that
