I thought it was run, hide and tell ( if you can and it is safe to do so). You need your mobile to tell surely?

Well yes, but in this case I presume the police are already aware! It's to mitigate the risk of your phone ringing or buzzing merrily away while you try and hide from a deluded, murderous lunatic.

Here we are again watching the details of something terrible that's happened come through on the news.
I feel so sorry for the people affected, hurt, traumatised and bereaved.
Senseless hideous violence.

Six people confirmed dead at the moment.

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/40146916

Six people have been killed in an attack in central London in which three assailants were shot dead by police, Scotland Yard has said.

A white van hit several pedestrians on London Bridge just after 22:00 BST.

Three men then left the vehicle and stabbed a number of people in Borough Market, an area known for its restaurants and bars.

Armed officers confronted and shot three male suspects within eight minutes.

Met Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley said: "The suspects were wearing what looked like explosive vests but these were later established to be hoaxes."

He said it was currently believed there were only three attackers involved.

London Ambulance Service said at least 30 people have been taken to hospital.

The British Transport Police said one of its officers was seriously injured after being stabbed as he responded to the incident, but his condition was not said to be life-threatening.

Awful news :( what kind of world do we live in these days?

Witness interviewed on sky news
"I heard the police shouting move away move away so I started filming on my phone"
WTF!!!
What's is wrong with people that they feel the need to record a scene on their phone even though there could be a threat to their lives!!!

I really don't know. Much as it might be a good thing for evidence (there is the photo evidence upload site) the police at that point were there already there so it probably wouldn't make much difference.

I can only imagine the panick as the scene unfolded but if a police officer tells me to leave a scene then I'm gone, I don't need telling twice & my phone would only come out to tell my family that I'm ok.

As for people saying shut the border that'll stop em, it won't because they're already in the country & have been for yrs.
Today we need to think of those injured in this latest attack.

My phone is almost always on vibrate, I don't have a 'true' mute I don't think, just low volume going straight to vibrate, and as there is a slight noise with vibrate...

Hasn't anybody ever heard of mute?

A lot of phones don't go to mute by default, needs setting in the menus. Plus some alterts, particularly alarms, will play even if a phone is muted. Much easier and quicker just to turn them off.

I only use an old fashioned mobile for its use as a phone which allows me to drive, for example, with the phone on mute but with an immediate signal should an emergency require it

Horrific. My thoughts go out to all the victims and their families and friends.

So...is this our lives now? Is this what we're going to have to live with from now on? Horrible attacks every month or so? Can we bring any end to this?

If I were part of a religion, organisation or group that had extremists at one end slaughtering innocent people, I wouldn't be in that group much longer.

Does the answer lie within?

While there is no balance of power in the Middle East, be that a one-, two- or even three-state solution, it will be bad. I'm not anticipating the problem would go away entirely though...

I agree with your initial comments, the second part however is no more than we were asking in the 1970s
