Advice usually given in the event of a shooting attack, sadly.
I thought it was run, hide and tell ( if you can and it is safe to do so). You need your mobile to tell surely?

praying wont help.
London doesn't need praying for. It's survived the Great Fire, several Plagues, killer floods, Blitz, the IRA, 7/7, Westminster and it'll survive today without hashtags too.

Well yes, but in this case I presume the police are already aware! It's to mitigate the risk of your phone ringing or buzzing merrily away while you try and hide from a deluded, murderous lunatic.
Vauxhall incident delcared as unrelated to London Bridge and not terrorist
Six people have been killed in an attack in central London in which three assailants were shot dead by police, Scotland Yard has said.
A white van hit several pedestrians on London Bridge just after 22:00 BST.
Three men then left the vehicle and stabbed a number of people in Borough Market, an area known for its restaurants and bars.
Armed officers confronted and shot three male suspects within eight minutes.
Met Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley said: "The suspects were wearing what looked like explosive vests but these were later established to be hoaxes."
He said it was currently believed there were only three attackers involved.
London Ambulance Service said at least 30 people have been taken to hospital.
The British Transport Police said one of its officers was seriously injured after being stabbed as he responded to the incident, but his condition was not said to be life-threatening.
Six people confirmed dead at the moment.

Awful news what kind of world do we live in these days?
Why is it?Advice usually given in the event of a shooting attack, sadly.
I really don't know. Much as it might be a good thing for evidence (there is the photo evidence upload site) the police at that point were there already there so it probably wouldn't make much difference.Witness interviewed on sky news
"I heard the police shouting move away move away so I started filming on my phone"
WTF!!!
What's is wrong with people that they feel the need to record a scene on their phone even though there could be a threat to their lives!!!
Why is it?
Those who do want to pray don't go to Southwark Cathedral as it is within the cordon.

Why is this the advice? Why is it what?
what on earth is going on? Why switch mobiles off?

Why is this the advice?
I mean why switch them off, I think I wrote it badly, I have added some more quotes to the other post. That's what the police say. It seems to be common sense.
Run away, hide, tell.

Hasn't anybody ever heard of mute?
A lot of phones don't go to mute by default, needs setting in the menus. Plus some alterts, particularly alarms, will play even if a phone is muted. Much easier and quicker just to turn them off.
Can we bring any end to this?
Horrific. My thoughts go out to all the victims and their families and friends.
So...is this our lives now? Is this what we're going to have to live with from now on? Horrible attacks every month or so? Can we bring any end to this?
