They should to be PRM compliant - the unit I travelled on this week didn't, but I'm assuming they do it during refurbishment.
This thread seems to have gone really quiet on refurbished SWR trains...
So is it like they do 3 450s, 1 444, 1 159 and 1 442 all at the same time? The programmes continue, with six units currently receiving the treatment; one 442, one 444, three 450s and one 159, as well as PRM mods for the 159.
Yes. It was all explained in a recent Modern Railways article. (Post #1486 originally referred)So is it like they do 3 450s, 1 444, 1 159 and 1 442 all at the same time?
Yes, should be released at a rate of one a day, seven days a week. I have noticed that fully refurbished 450s have become a lot more common in the past couple of weeks.Yes. It was all explained in a recent Modern Railways article. (Post #1486 originally referred)
The key point for the Desiros is that the worked up production rate is supposed to allow a four day cycle time with 3 x 450 and a single 444 under way in parallel. So they should be coming through now at a significant rate. They are also supposed to be overnight moves to and from Eastleigh and straight back into service, so the moves can get missed and go unreported.
I noticed today that 444040 has gained a silver/white stripe over its first class section.
Has been there from the start: Photo here
444040 isn't in a finished livery. It's very much promo launch photo vinal wrap.Huh. Never noticed it. Wonder if they'll change it to yellow to match the other liveries.
Yeah I'm sure that is the case, its just that not many people on this thread have said anything about refurbished 444sThere must be way more 444's done by now!

There is significantly more work to do on a 444 than a 450.The current rate is one 444 at a time and three 450s, hence 450s will be completed at a significantly faster rate.
Does Anyone know why SWR have rarely refurbished their trains? SWR has been really slow on work for the SWR Network there is only 1 450 and 1 444 thats refurbished and still no sign of Class 442s
450 111 Was Spotted at Feltham at 9:11 AM on Friday Morning
Do you mean repainted? This thread shows refurbishments are happening.Does Anyone know why SWR have rarely refurbished their trains? SWR has been really slow on work for the SWR Network there is only 1 450 and 1 444 thats refurbished and still no sign of Class 442s

This is happening.yeah I did mean the Repaint but also SWR promised that the interior layout would be changed to Increase Capacity and provide inductive charging ports in First and Standard Class
If you read back a few pages they decided to completely separate the interior and exterior work. The interior refurbs and capacity changes are now supposed to be at full “production line” rate... personally I suspect there were problems with sourcing the interior modification kits - which is why some 450s are only partly complete - ie they’ve progressed the bits that didn’t need bulkhead and door changes.yeah I did mean the Repaint but also SWR promised that the interior layout would be changed to Increase Capacity and provide inductive charging ports in First and Standard Class
The repaints are starting this year and will take three years. They will be painted rather than vinyled. The internal refurbs are planned to be fully complete in May. This includes finishing the 45 part - refurbs. In terms of livery, as I understand it, the 444 and 450 are not in the completed version and will get changed. Internal refurb, or refresh as it is known, is currently the priority.
Well pictures might be interesting but having just travelled in 2+2 1st class I can see no point other than for those with big egos or expense accounts bothering. My trip was part of an Aberdeen to Havant journey where of course 1st class (with cheap advance ticket mind you) north of London is actually nice with many perks. New seats were slippery, just as narrow as in standard so allowing you to play footsies and elbowsies with your neighbours. Looking down the coach it was evident that the aisle armrests were in direct line with those in the standard portion so definitely no extra space. I don't know what unit it was but it was in old livery so finding the new seat layout was a bit of a disappointment. It will be interesting to see the pictures of that 444 with 2+2 seating in first class, certainly I can see the appeal for it decreasing, especially at weekends.
1st Class is now worse than Standard, because as you say there's no extra space and the FISA seats are worse than the Grammer seats in Standard.Well pictures might be interesting but having just travelled in 2+2 1st class I can see no point other than for those with big egos or expense accounts bothering. Personally I find the standard class seats more comfortable, but will usually opt for 1st because of the 2+2 seats with armrests.I travelled on another fully-refurbished 450 yesterday(450094) on the Waterloo to Reading line and first class is declassified on that line, so I was essentially able to sit in first class for free The seat padding isn't very comfortable, but better than the seats in standard class. The tables are also nice and big.
