There are ecs moves from Edinburgh to Shields Depot, Glasgow QS High Level to Shields Depot via Cumbernauld DRS and Edinburgh to Corkerhill Depot tomorrow evening.
Down as 385, but not sure if this will be the Class 380 units that have been operating from Queen Street?

It could be that the 385s diagrammed for current driver training/morning peak Cathcart Circle/Newton services are being swapped for different 385s currently based at Millerhill, or a new set of 385 diagrams are about to start from Glasgow Central in place of 314s that will be withdrawn.

I'm not a fan of the new open/close door buttons. Unlike the previous designs there's no force feedback/click when it's pressed.

There was a member of staff collecting rubbish on my train to Glasgow this morning.

And the 1830 I got back from Glasgow was really clean despite it just having completed a peak journey from Edinburgh.

I was on a Glasgow Queen street service out of Edinburgh last night at 5.30 pm and it left with a table with 4 empty plastics glasses an empty bottle of prosecco and cans. So definitely not cleaned. I'm going to stick my head out here. I'm guessing women! Putting me even more in the firing line. I find women are more often the litter louts on trains. Not exclusively, but frequently. Either way it's a disgrace when you can't bin your own rubbish. My table had what looked like raspberry yogurt smeared on it.

So no. The trains are far from clean. Can't think many European trains serving the capital city would be in such a state. A new train to boot. Come on Scotland and Scotrail. Have some pride and self discipline

I find the worst behaved members of the public on trains are women if not the worst in general. They consistently leave a message behind and that's just the sober ones! If it's not applying nail varnish stinking the coach out it's drinking and making a racket. Glad I'm not the only one to have spotted this.

Apart from the driver's window, what are these major structural flaws? Compared with the issues facing the new Northern fleets, the introduction of the 385 seems to have gone quite smoothly.
Sounds scary doesn’t it. A term like “structural flaws” would usually bring to mind something such as cracks or distortion in main structure, appearing unexpectedly following normal use...

There is a dedicated team who clean the 385s on the move, between Qst and Croy and at Edinburgh , but the can't do everything especially when you see what filth a weekend evening yields. I take it you've never travelled on commuter services in large European cities? I've yet to see a Scotrail train with floor to ceiling graffiti on the inside (and out), women begging at every door with tiny babies, drug paraphernalia scattered around. Overcrowding to the extent staff are employed to push you into the train. I spent 3 years travelling into Paris and Madrid, and these are the realities. This notion that everyone else is better is quite frankly utter nonsense. Its also quite amazing to see the detail the nightshift heavy cleaning squads manage to achieve, trains look like new after a heavy clean. Sadly it only lasts a few hours. Until we have a cultural shift from "someone else will get it" it's a lost battle. Perhaps we should be putting up signs like IKEA and McDonald's declaring it a "self clear" area. It seems to work.

For a short time there was a band getting on the trains at Queens Park and then wanting money when the train got to Crosshill where they got off.

I say band loosely, two guys with an accordian and a trombone or something it was.

That actually isn’t a bad idea.

There’s also plenty of announcements on the 385s I’d be tempted to add one in asking passengers to bin their rubbish or take it with them when alighting.

Am I right in assuming that more and more SDA diagrams are now operated by 385s? Ie fewer 158 or 170s?

not on the glasgow side. Still wall to wall 158 & 170 with the occasional 156 on the Glasgow - Dunblane services. A few Glasgow to Alloa services have gone over to 385s but it is the Edinburgh services that have largely gone 385 following the premature withdrawal of the 365's.

Yes Gourock drivers sign Cathcart/Neilston/Newton routes. If the 385s are not going to be working Inverclydes then the only reason for having the Gourock drivers learning them would be to work circles. But given that the units are clearly able to work the route then I can see no reason why we wont see 385s out there on occasion if required.

Gourock drivers unusually used to run a service to Newton in the morning peak that used the turnback siding at Newton rather than just turn around in the platforms because it got the train out of the way of two Hamilton Circles-one in each direction. I'm not totally sure if they still do that run or it has been lost in the usual diagram changes over the years between Motherwell, Glasgow Central and Shields Depots. Generally a Gourock driver's day will involve at least one run on Cathcart/Newton/Neilston. Traction and traincrew variety indeed.

I have never been nor seen a train in Europe that you described . But I accept your no doubt right. Regardless as you say. How do we change behaviour. I was told by a guard they are not allowed to make anti littering announcements on trains. Is that right? I would name and shame every one by cctv .

But I challenge the cleaning teams. Look under seats. Between seats. Between seats and bulkheads. Put a hoover nozzle between seat cushion and backs. . But above all punish the culprits.

I have seen some pretty disgusting trains and stations on the European mainland, but I've also seen very clean ones.

I believe it's in Stockholm commuter trains that an announcement is sometimes played which asks people to take their litter with them. The Rotterdam subway trains also do it when they arrive at their terminus ("please remember to take your litter and personal belongings with you when alighting. Thank you for travelling with RET." but then in Dutch). The RET trains don't have any on-train bins at all, but there are plenty at the stations.

So 12 left to leave the factory and the 4 from Italy which should be en route by now

Correct. Only 041-044 left to come through the test process. All others have been sighted outside in Yard.

When are the 4 from italy due back in the UK?

Also, have the 385s fully taken over the glasgow to Edinburgh via cumbernauld services yet or are there still some 380s on those along with the north berwick/dunbars?

Scotrail tweeted a clip of a 380 leaving QS, with the caption that this was becoming less and less common as the 385s replaced them. Suggests that there are still a few, but not for long.

The only thing I'll miss about the 380s was the PA jingle. Aside from that they are very basic inside.

I'm interested to hear from 385 drivers what they think of the units, cab layout, ergonomics, performance etc. I can't imagine the cabs are superior to 170s.

I think there’s only been 1 (maybe 2) 380 at Queen Street for a while now. They were taken off the E-G ages ago and have only been used on the route via Cumbernauld and pretty much run empty all day. There have been more 385s appearing on that route now though, so I imagine the 380s will be gone in a few weeks.

Seems to be another delivery tonight.

If I understand this right. Scotrail have an option of a further 10 385 3 cars to order next year if the get the franchise ? If they don’t does that option lapse. ?

Whete were they destined for service?

Is it more expensive to stop then restart production a few years later?

Should transport Scotland just take up that option now irrespective of Abellio franchise renewal to ensure capacity is not at risk for want of momentum in ordering ? They seem fine trains

I think you're absolutely right. Ensure that they are ordered now.
