Refurbishment currently not happening on 350231-270 as those 30 trains (ie the 350/2's with the green 3+2 squash seating) - these are being returned to Porterbrook, the leasing company once the new trains arrive from Bombardier. Say that, you'd think Porterbrook would at least spend some money on properly removing the scruffy previous (London Midland) branding & tidying their trains up ready for whoever the next owner is.

do you mean 350231-350267 there isnt a 350270

Why would Porterbrook be spending money on trains that don't have any future lease agreed?

If the refurbishment isn't happening on the particular trains mentioned, a good general clean up wouldn't go amiss. The remains of the graffiti in my photo didn't do anything to help the appearance of the train whilst in service.

To make them more attractive to any potential takers. Good, quick trains too, with at least another 15 years in them. Annoys me they can't be gutted and refurbed up to the WMT 2+2 standard.... and kept, abandon the Bombardier order - apart from the flooding toilets, these are good trains.

Yes, 350s will be used on the Abbey Line. The interior doesn't really matter as it's not exactly busy - if it hadn't been electrified a 153 would be plenty. It's a bit like Lymington in that regard.

Yeah LM livery was great in the late 00s and most of the 10s but LNWR livery is stylish yet simple

It's mainly below the solebar, at positions visible to no-one bar the fitters.
It does make you wonder why it seems not to have been discussed much about the 450s and 360s of similar age? I wonder if the corrosion is not actually that significant, and the main reason it’s been mentioned so much is that the repairs are being done somewhere a bit off the beaten track?

Both are planning to be refurbished/repainted (450s for SWR and 360/1s for EMR) so I can imagine the repaint will cover the corrosion repair.

350130 has returned after corrosion repairs in white.

Corrosion repairs also take in the rot and cant level where the orange warning stripe is. That's being done at the same time. All the 350/2's also had corrsion repairs over the last 18 months too to the same standard. HTH

Thanks to those who replied to my question about the details of the corrosion re[airs..

However, I wonder whether the initial anti-corrosion treatment could be considered inadequate, bearing in mind the low age of, particularly, the 350/2s. Road vehicles suffer from corrosion because of exposure to road-salt in water, which affects (in different ways) steel and aluminium. 350s are just exposed to plain water.

if it's not covered by warranty or the maintenance contract, perhaps Siemen saw corrosion resistance treatment as an un-necessary expense.

Corrosion repairs to Class 350/2s seems premature considering these are only about 11 years old ? Unless this is usual standard for stock like this?
