LNER’s first class always sees healthy loadings, all the times that I’ve used it. I’ve never seen it completely full though.

Is that enough first class seating for the Azuma's as I have noticed that it can get quite full?

Plenty!
You don't want to end up like VTWC or EMT with acres of first, but absolutely rammed standard class

I don't think they've culled it too much, certainly I've never seen it rammed.

Exactly, too many operators in the last have ordered new trains with too much First Class - Virgin with the Pendolinos, Midland Mainline with the Meridians; in this case I think they've struck a good balance.

It struck what was believed to be a spark guard on the line that had come off either a HST or 180. Suffered smashed headlight and window as well as an air leak.

When I did have to get the Harrogate service when the Hull one was cancelled it reminded me how much more superior the seat reservation indicators are on the Azuma - still not as good as paper though for seeing what is and what isn't free from outside.

They're not perfect but better than the other electronic ones.

Indeed, unless you are standing right next to the seat you have no idea if it's reserved or not.

True, rather like being seated on the Mk4s, it's difficult to see the display without performing a contortionist act!

Had my first Leeds - KX journey on one Friday.

My impressions were quite good.

It was nice and easy to avoid the seats with red lights above them and find an unreserved double seat.

The seats were hard - but they must have had some ergonomic merit, as I wasn't aching by the end.

The seat back tables felt a lot more sturdy than on the mallard stock. I was relatively confident of my drink not launching itself across the carriage (as happenned on a mk 4 once).

Window blinds were handy on a summers day (yes, not as good as curtains, but better than nowt for those of us in steerage).

Loo was as one would expect on a modern train.

Ambience seemed decent.

Overall, I enjoyed the journey.

I had my first ride of a class 800 from Doncaster to Leeds last week, and I have to say that I'm impressed. The seats were firm, but they felt just like the Mk4 seating. I did notice a old man who had to look through a tiny gap in the window, due to a woman insisting in it being down. The toilets are ok, but the taps seem to fire water everywhere. The ride was far better than the Mk4 (but then again, a pacer is less bouncy than the Mk4 in my opinion.) I don't know if it was just me, or whether other people thought it looked a bit weird with the blanked out window instead of the buffet design with the Mk3 and Mk4. Overall, it was a nice ride, and for certain aspects its nicer than the Mk4

Quite a few, all bar two of the GWR sets, and all of the 9 car 800s for LNER

10 of the 9 car 800/1s are in passenger use 800102 - 108 and 110 - 113.

800109 is accepted but not worked a passenger service yet, previously stored at Tyne Yard, but now at Doncaster, and 800101 previously the test unit, is currently also at Doncaster, accepted but not yet worked a passenger service.

I would say on balance I prefer it to Mk4s, but Mk4s are dire - cheap and nasty rubbish that rides like an absolute cart.
