In summer I traveled on what I later discovered what the first set delivered, and I noticed a lot of the seat coverings were coming undone, which was a real shame.
Not an exclusive to HST issue unfortunately, I've noticed the same issues on certain DMU/EMU classes

Given the lack of word on a replacement HST set, I suspect we will only hear about it either after its appearance, or it's lack thereof becomes apparent,
A power car (or two) going into Loughborough from Ely would be an obvious indicator.

That's overstating it a bit isn't it?

The 4 cars can fit on platforms 3 and 4 with plenty to spare, as can be seen in this video at 10:45 or 11:40:

As far as I can see, there'd be no problem with fitting all the coaches of a 5 car set on the platform; the question of course would be the implications of the power car going beyond the signal.

I sem to remember some discussion previously on the thread that the signals at Inverness allow this on some platforms but maybe that's only 1 & 2 (I certainly remember watching the sleeper depart from those platforms, back when it had a load of motorail vans on the front, with the loco(s) well beyond the signals)

Not at all platform 3 and 4 will never fit a five car plus powercars as they would foul the signal on 3 and 4 they have had that issue in the past regarding too many dmus being in the platform beforehand. Happened last year a few times a 4 car 158 and a 170 came into platform 4 caused a quick shunt out so 3 and 4 would have to be rebuilt to allow safely. 1 and 2 aren't an issue as such as they can accommodate 2x4 hsts on 2. Platform 1 does overhang but doesn't cause the same problem

There is a path in for Thursday. Marked as a light diesel locomotive and 75mph......that's different, it would say HST and 125mph

Is this a batch of coaches being pulled by standard diesel loco?

Not with a '0' head code. That's loco(s) only.

A pair of power cars coming back up on their own?

That's quite likely. I would've thought coaches would go to Slateford, at least temporarily.

So, I make it the better part of an hour past the departure time and no sign of this running...

When is the first 5 Car Set due to come onto the Scene? Extraordinary to think it will only be 4 Carriages shorter than the long formwr LNER Hsts

“Only” is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence!

Perhaps more striking comparisons would be only one coach shorter than the remaining EMR sets, and the same length as or longer than the XC Voyagers.

ScotRail have a lower density spec on their Mk3s, so you'd be pushing it if you were taking a refurb set and passing it off as like for like with the ex-LNER sets when proportionating the lengths.

The ScotRail sets are of similar seating density to the LNER sets in standard and have a lower proportion of first class.

By two seats, it's basically the MM/EMT/EMR 74-seat layout which is identical to the late-BR (and continued by the ICEC franchises) 76-seat layout minus two seats replaced by a luggage stack.

I'm not sure adding two seats would really be that bad!

Someone give us a laugh and remind us how many seats GWR fitted into a Standard Class mk3?

47813 + 43124 / 43164. Delayed due to the failure of 57310 (there’s a surprise) which was originally booked to haul the PCs back to Edinburgh.

Looks like a replacement pair going south tomorrow.

It was 124 and 148 that went back today 164 must of failed so 124 had an extra trip back to Scotland and back to Doncaster

there are about 5 sets of refurbished coaches at Slateford right now, minus powercars. The ends are pretty heavily boarded up too so it doesn't look temporary.

Any idea what they're doing there?

They will be moved when the new Cadder depot becomes available. There's simply nowhere to keep them just now. Should have been tomorrow but its not.

Talking of stores coaches whats the story with the rake of classic coaches sitting in the yard at Dundee? Been there a wee while now. Obviously not required but presumably still leased?
