Thankfully I haven't had to listen to her new single yet! (Funnily enough, I'd never heard of her until a mate mentioned her)

Hum the tune of "oh my darling clementine" throw in a few beats and weird lyrics and your pretty much there!

Its too late for some of us but save yourself!

The Golden Age of popular music is about 15. Anything before is old fashioned rubbish and anything after is new fangled rubbish.

I've noticed that most pop songs have become ultra formulaic in recent years, excessive auto-tuned beats with some stupid rap intertwined. The rap bit seems compulsory.

The 80s was the last decade which actually had classics which we're still using today such as Last Christmas by Wham for example which is played every Christmas.

The 90s was the decade which introduced for the worse manufactured crap thanks to the shows such as Pop Idol, X Factor etc...which has given fame to these who can't even sing in tune such as Jedward, there is one good point though and that's the introduction of singer writers as KT Tunstall etc...

It's not declining - it's changing.

It's a dynamic expression and by definition you probably can't decide what is and what isn't 'exclusively' music. Some of it isn't for my taste, but it isn't declining per se. I agree with the above comments about talent show bands and quick-buck charity singles followed by another single destined for number 1, but you can't argue for fact that Tinie Tempah produces worse music than the Stranglers.

I am suprised that I am the only person on here who loves The Eagles! Hotel California surely features the greatest guitar solo of all time?

I bet every generation since the 50s has said this. It's called "turning into your parents syndrome"

You wouldn't be far wrong. I did a module last year at uni which looked at society in the 50s and 60s, as part of that I had to read up on some contemporary magazines (in the style of the modern Daily Mail) and it was quite funny to read articles bemoaning the decline of civil society and the dangers of the out of control youth of the day from 50 years ago. Indeed if you changed the dates they could have been taken from any tabloid today!

Greatest guitar solo? Have you ever heard Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd?

The Eagles aren't bad but I prefer Def Leppard/Whitesnake/Heart, also The Clash/The Jam/Sex Pistols, so basically rock/power ballads and punk :)

Your aware that enigma came about long before the Nazis and the world wars?

I thought it was invented in the 20s but I do know it preceded the Nazis, hence my use of "most associated" ;)

As for solos, comfortably numb has to be up there

You aren't....

Doesn't look like I'm the only Fleetwood Mac fan out there either!

Just out of interest, is there anyone who's a fan of (or even heard of!) Orianthi or Carrie Underwood?

Free Bird??? It's repetitve, pointless and far too long. I still love it though. Sweet Home Alabama is great too!

I like music today you have Kings Of Leon, Lady Antebellum and I work with a guy that has CD`s out that plays guitar and sings and writes his own music for his band.

I just think tastes of music have changed.

I don`t mind any of it and if I don`t like it I turn it off, I am often seen with ear phones in and in my own little world

This is quite an interesting debate. I am with the majority on here it's a changing scene, but also like what some have said for the worse.

I myself was a young teen through the two tone period so bands like The Specials, The Selecter, The Beat, Madness and Bad Manners were the favorites of the day for me. Alas my parents wouldnt let me go to the gigs because they would end in trouble because groups like the British Movement and the National front would tag themselves (despite being a reggae sounding, mixed group of people) along and cause mayhem. I only got to see later versions of these's groups live and i tell you it was far better then the studio stuff they produced.
The late 80s and early 90s was another good period of music with the 'Mad for it' Madchester movement of bands like The Inspiral Carpets, The Farm, New Order, Happy Mondays along with other indie bands such as Carter USM, The Frank and Walters and James. Saw a few of them live as well.
The mid nineties saw the Britpop battle between Blur and Oasis along with bands like the Verve.
The 2000s has offered me nothing. Even Glastonbury has lost its appeal.

As an aside the music i like is Jamaican and British Reggae, the early stuff from the 1960s where they would sing and get paid a pittence a very melodic period. I also like stuff life the Mamas and the Papas, Simon and Garfunkel etc. I also like smooth dinner Jazz (listening to that now on Jazz FM), the 1980s electric stuff, a great lover of classical of all kinds from Beethoven to Libera, world music i love bollywood songs. Infact it would have been easy for to let you know what i dont like >> Heavy, Heavy Metal, crap rap and gangster.

A very good question Klambert and as you are a young lad i am glad you would like to see a ska revival i am with 110% of the way.
