Nominally, I would guess that one 710/2 is covering for 710124 and the other is effectively the unit which releases a 710/1 for the Romford-Upminster shuttle. There seem to be two or more 710/2s running with the 710/1s out of Liverpool Street.

Well, all the LO 315s and 317s have gone now...That would make sense.
Long term what will fill the need for an EMU on the Romfrd-Upminster shuttle as I seem to recall that was going to soldier on with an older EMU ?. I had forgotten about that shuttle btw.
Hmm, yes well I suppose Covid has something to do with no longer needing a heritage EMU for the shuttle !.Well, all the LO 315s and 317s have gone now...
They ultimately didn't need a heritage EMU for the Upminster shuttle. One of the 710/2s was nominally for the route.Hmm, yes well I suppose Covid has something to do with no longer needing a heritage EMU for the shuttle !.
I expect there was an explanation back in the mists of time. They ultimately didn't need a heritage EMU for the Upminster shuttle. One of the 710/2s was nominally for the route.
Ah gotcha. Guessing it isn't feasible to get a unit(/s) from the depot into P16, use it on the service then in the evening return via a reversal at Victoria (using Battersea Reversible)The problem is from P17 towards Balham. Access to/from Kensington Olympia is fine.
As in 710376 being 432176-432276-433376-432476-432576 or the motor arrangement?I am 100% sure this will be in this thread somewhere, but I am absolutely not trawling back through 90 pages of discussionbut just looking for the coach formation for the 710/3's please?
Thanks
That is basically what I was looking for - presumably the other numbers follow suit according to the unit number? And that the 4321** and 4325**'s are the driving ends?As in 710376 being 432176-432276-433376-432476-432576 or the motor arrangement?
Yes, the 4-car units miss out the 4324** coach but otherwise have the same numbering with 4321** and 4325** being the driving ends. That is basically what I was looking for - presumably the other numbers follow suit according to the unit number? And that the 4321** and 4325**'s are the driving ends?
Thanks @JonathanH, appreciate thatYes, the 4-car units miss out the 4324** coach but otherwise have the same numbering with 4321** and 4325** being the driving ends.
I guess that makes it easy if they decide to extend them.Yes, the 4-car units miss out the 4324** coach but otherwise have the same numbering with 4321** and 4325** being the driving ends.
It wasn’t ever ‘explained’ in detail by TfL, IMHO, although it did get reported by an insider that the single 315 plan had been binned.I expect there was an explanation back in the mists of time.

The original explanation for the 315 being kept was in “TfL board papers”, which are quoted from in post #758 of this thread, but it was written in the days when eight dual voltage units, ie 378s, were going to be transferred from NLL to the ELL for service enhancements to 20 tph. Obviously that has never happened, so in principle they are over provided with units currently.
Are there any recent announcements, everything I found when searching dates from 2019/20 or so…Seems the ELL enhancement thing seems to be going ahead
Three of them usually work on the Euston to Watford line. Can someone tell me about the current operations of the 710/3s please.
I've only currently got 377 as being active - which other 2 are in service?Three of them usually work on the Euston to Watford line.
The other three aren't in London.
376 and 378.I've only currently got 377 as being active - which other 2 are in service?

376 and 378.
Bloody hell, you both must have clicked reply at the same time376 and 378.
Edit: @JonathanH beat me to it!
I must say from a selfish point of view I hope they don’t stay on the GOBLIN as I would appreciate the charging points on the Clapham Stratford servicesBloody hell, you both must have clicked reply at the same time
Thanks both
Any idea when they entered service please?
I think the in service dates for the three 710/3s areAny idea when they entered service please?
I seem to find that the charging points in 710s send such insufficient and intermittent current that they don't really charge the battery (although the ones at the driving cab ends are a bit better than the ones at the other coach ends). Same with 230s/484s.I would appreciate the charging points on the Clapham Stratford services
Thank youI think the in service dates for the three 710/3s are
710376 - May 2021
710377 - June 2021
710378 - August 2021

Gosh, nearly a year. How much longer until 710374, 710375 & 710379 enter service ?. Of course there is still 710270 to enter service as well.I think the in service dates for the three 710/3s are

One covered the absence of 710124 but that is back in service now.Currently 4 710s outstanding for six diagrams - so what have the two extra 710s (three 710/3s minus one 710/2) been needed for but won't be needed when the ELL takes its six 378s ?.
Yes, you remind me, I have encountered one or two 710/2s running out of Liverpool Street. It also seems they use about 25 out of 30 of the 710/1s (+1 on the shuttle) so perhaps availability of the 710/1s is not what it was planned to be ?.One covered the absence of 710124 but that is back in service now.
There always seem to be two 710/2s within the West Anglia / Upminster allocation even before the absence of 710124 when it would appear that only one may be expected.
