Why would North West TPE automatically take priority over North TPE? Why would North West services not be destrengthened?

On Friday afternoons currently a North TPE service gets de-strengthened (compared to Mon-Thurs) in favour of extra capacity on Manchester-Scotland.

TPEs 350401 waiting to depart Manchester Piccadilly this morning with 1M32 0535 to Manchester Airport, which then forms 1S32 0558 to Edinburgh.

So 401 is out and about again.

Lovely shot.

I do wish there was an easy way of working out which car is approaching when your waiting to board at an intermediate station. The only way I can see at present is to try and work out where the pan car (B) is as the train approaches.

Don't 185s have the coupler over the electrical contacts painted yellow on the First Class end? The pic of 401 seems to show some yellow and blue - is this something similar?

I think you will find that on the class 350 at least and other units that the yellow is danger warning signs on the electrical contacts cover similar to below.

Don't think there is anything obvious to tell which end is which apart from vehicle numbers or as said the end the pantograph is toward.

If the guard is in the rear cab, can they hear the automated announcements?
Well given that one can hear the AWS and DSD 'bongs' when sitting near to the cab, I would expect so; I wouldn't be surprised if there was a speaker in the cab.

Was going to add this. I don't know if its visible on drivers panels though.

Why don't we have some common sense and instead of a small yellow bar on the front of the coupler to denote 1st class, why not do something easy such as paint a 1 or 1st on the front below the windscreen so we can read it clearly.

Or would this be too simple?

1st isn't really relevant on the new 350s as it is coach C now towards the centre. An A at the coach A end and a D at the coach D end might help, but even that goes out the window when they work in pairs, as one unit becomes EFGH. Oh well.

Because people are that daft (Or not) they wouldn't assume that because a train had a 1 painted on the front meant it was first class at the front. And to be fair to them why would they when a little bit in the middle of one car is actually first class.

Any news regarding the graffiti removal on the unit that was vandalised abroad ?

I'm wondering if they have even decided what livery the units are going to be put in - let alone clearing existing graffiti!

Corporate image and all that...

They posted this to their G+ page a few months ago but they did say it was still possible to be changed.

I think it was rumoured a new livery was being introduced ie a new corporate first rail livery.

Nah. Rumours of a First-wide rebrand have been going round for years now. Kind of an amplification of hearsay and misinformation (like the TSGN base livery that 365s are being done into, which some people have misinterpreted as the new First livery).

I wish they would just decide if they are keeping the old logo or using the new one and leave it at that. If you go to their (recently revamped) website they use the new logo (the one standard with all of the other First TOC's logos) at the top, but if you scroll down to the drawing of the 350... it's got the old one on it! grr!

I do agree that the First lines livery does look very smart on the 350s. Sometimes I can think that the pink doors look hideous on some stock, but not so this time.

350404 had a poor day today, don't think it was the unit's fault, just cumulative delays on route. The 185 I was going south on passed 404 at Carlisle around 0830 this morning heading for Edinburgh about 15' down.

Later in the day, I boarded 404 at Wigan by then running around 35' late, and left it at Lockerbie around 50 late.

No electronic announcements being made, but the conductor was at least trying to sort onward connections from Edinburgh for those that needed them. No spare seats north of Preston and schoolkids standing from Penrith.

Hi everyone. Is there any booked workings for the TPE 350s this weekend? Sat 01/02 and Sun 02/02? Many thanks in advance.

350405 may have had an even worse day than sister 404 did yesterday.

The diagrammed 350 Edinburgh working @1400 from MIA only got as far as Oxford Road before being cancelled.

Some 1.25 hours later 350405 departed Oxford Road heading for Carlisle not Edinburgh (nobody told the crew this as EDB was on the external displays).

I boarded at Preston and noted that the train had many expectant passengers for EDB, did not have any A/B/C/D window stickers, nor the electronic interior displays working, and looked spotless in and out.

It fell to the same unfortunate Conductor who was on yesterdays delayed working, and whom takes the train over at Preston, to inform the passengers on board that Carlisle was were the train would terminate and they would have a 40 minute wait before joining the next TPE service for Edinburgh.

What I don't know is whether 405 was defective at Oxford Road and repaired, or whether 405 was a swap for another defective unit. Was this 405s first day in public service?
