Some updates required to TPEs list

Newcastle guards no longer sign west of Leeds and they also now only sign Class 802s.

Liverpool guards no longer have booked work East of Leeds.

All York guards sign 802s now.

Yes they do have TMs and caterers there

We are missing this - any idea of route knowledge?

Just an update about TPE at Lime street.

Liverpool Lime Street:
Traction: 185, 802

Liverpool L St-Manchester Vic via Newton-le-Willows
Edge Hill-Manchester Airport via Warrington Central
Manchester Picc-Leeds via Marsden and Dewsbury
Huddersfield-Leeds via Wakefield Kirkgate
Brighouse-Huddersfield
Miles Platting-Heaton Lodge via Hebden Bridge
Salford Central-Water Street Jn (Ordsall Chord)

The route card has been decimated over recent years but that is what absolutely everyone signs.

There are also a number of extras that some sign and some don't. They are:

Leeds-York via micklefield or Castleford.(no booked work as of Dec23)
Salford Crescent-Manchester Victoria (direct)
Salford Crescent-Deansgate
York-Newcastle via KEB and HLB (crew in the single digits still sign it.)

Over 150 miles lost in the name of efficiency.

Some updates required to TPEs list

Newcastle guards no longer sign west of Leeds and they also now only sign Class 802s.

Liverpool guards no longer have booked work East of Leeds.

All York guards sign 802s now.

Will add these both shortly.
WMT:

Birmingham New St also sign the 196, link dependent

Thanks edited.

Is it possible for someome to add the NIR information i posted in post #202 earlier:

I just noticed it had not been added yet so just thought that i would point this out.

Also i spoke to a guard on Eurostar the other week and found out this regarding which routes the guards at each depot signs:

Amsterdam:
• 374
• Brussels to Amsterdam

Brussels:
• 373 374
• London to Brussels
• London to Paris

Lille:
• 373 374
• London to Brussels
• London to Paris

London:
• 373 374
• London to Brussels
• London to Paris

Paris:
• 373 374
• London to Brussels
• London to Paris

All of the guards at all of the depots have the "Train Manager" title.

It is worth pointing out that the route knowledge in Mainland Europe works very differently to the UK and the guards do not have to sign routes in Belgium and France in the same way that they do in the UK.

Also note this information is for Eurostar guards who work traditional Eurostar trains only. The depots in Mainland Europe also have Thalys guards which are now Eurostar trains. However the Thalys guards are seperate and do not work the traditional Eurostar services and the person i spoke to was not sure on what they sign. So this information is only for traditional Eurostar trains. Although i was told that Eurostar are looking at integrating it at some point in the future so both traditional Eurostar services and ex Thalys services can be worked by the same guards.

Also for Chiltern Railways you can remove West Ealing from Banbury depot as they no longer sign this.

One other thing is that the Grand Central based guards at Bradford depot sign the 221s now as well.

Started creating a map for TPE's using this thread, not much done yet (since I realised the time) but I should get to it tomorrow evening, and hope to have a few depots done by then.

I believe this is now complete, I will aim to maintain it whenever a change to the TPE route knowledge is mentioned here, for some reason the colours like to vanish, please de-select the depots you aren't looking for using the menu.

Edit:
Gave up on Northern (for now at least, it'll be a lot of work if I ever decide to do it) and did Avanti instead! Unfortunately documentation for diversion routes is very limited, so I didn't put any diversion routes on there, except for Preston's Wigan-Manc-Crewe, which is specifically listed.

Worth pointing out at merseyrail that no Birkenhead guards sign kirkdale or vice versa, that's only something a small group of drivers do

For Staines guards on SWR, do the commercial and metro guards sign the same route cards or which do each of them do from that depot? Many thanks

Northern updates for the west side -
319s can be removed from all relevant depots.
769s now only signed by Manchester Victoria & Wigan (Liverpool drivers also sign, link specific)
323s have been added to Wigan traction card, only one link initially, all links for December TT change
Blackburn don't sign Wigan to Southport

On the 67s, this is signed by all Cardiff mainline guards now. However, they will often give newer guards a few months to settle before organising training for them. I also believe that the district line is no longer a requirement for Cardiff mainline guards. I wasn't required to learn it, and don't know many, if any that do. we also no longer sign 170/175s. Eventually the 231s will be coming over to mainline for use on local services.
Cardiff Central (Mainline):
Traction: 67/MK4, 150, 153, 158, 170, 175, 197

Cardiff to Swansea to Carmarthen to Milford Haven
Cardiff to Bridgend via Barry
Cardiff to Shrewsbury
Cardiff to Ebbw Vale Town
Bridgend to Llanelli via Swansea District line
Bridgend to Maesteg
Cardiff to Shrewsbury
Shrewsbury to Chester including Crewe triangle
Newport to Cheltenham Spa

Do guards ever get trained on routes not typically signed by that depot? Just applied for a guards role with TPE, so I'd like to know what the chances are I'll be able to revisit my primary Avanti haunt at Manchester

No, they will want to get you productive ASAP so unlikely you will sign any routes not required by your link. It is easier for guards than drivers to retain route knowledge but even so, the company won't pay for you to go on a jolly to retain unnecessary route knowledge.

Figured so much. Wishful thinking, eh? ;)

It’s not unheard of for guards to be seconded into a temporary project team that may involve learning additional stock and routes, but the guards they pick are usually “the good eggs”. Several at Fratton now sign 458/4s and 458/5s for example, so never say never.

Indeed. Can't imagine a new starter falling into that camp, although stranger things have happened.

At TPE I can tell you it is zero. Offered to sign something (CLC) extra as I’d got ahead on route learning and finished a week(ish) early and got told nope, even with the flexibility this would’ve given them if I was working a Lime St train and Chat Moss was blocked!

avanti need a traction update as some staff will now sign 805’s

Any idea which depots?

Generally, I have done a (long-overdue) edit, but it is quite intensive for us to keep an eye on. If anyone is willing to assist in helping keeping this route & traction thread up-to-date, please do let me know.

If there is still obviously outdated info (e.g. traction since withdrawn) also let me know - either by PM or a reply.

Just a minor point that needs updating under SWR, 707's are all moved over to SE now, so no SWR depots sign 707 going forward.

Do you know which depots sign / are signing 701s?
At present some links at Waterloo and Staines sign them. Wimbledon Park, Strawberry Hill, Woking, Guildford and Farnham will sign them in the future.
