Does anyone know how many of the 166s are actually operational at Bristol? Presumably this total can be split between 'fully modified' and 'not fully modified, e.g. door modifications'. I am assuming that neither of the 165s are working as yet.

What I am trying to establish is the change so far to overall operational DMU seating capacity for Bristol/Exeter.

Also what has happened to the centre car out of 150925?

Reports elsewhere suggest that 57209 and 57212 have been put together as '150209' and they are being tidied up ahead of heading north to Northern for fitting to two Northern 150s. 150125 at Doncaster. 150126 in use on the GWR network as a 2-car.

Previous messages suggest there is no chance of '150209' operating in service as it did one day in September 2014.

Posted elsewhere that;

Bristol: 166202-204,206-214,219,220 RHM + local door control fitted.
Bristol: 166205,215,216 RHM + waiting for local door controls to be finished
Reading: 166201,217,218,221 unmodified

Of which 166221 was last reported at Long Martson but it looks like there was a switch with Reading yesterday so that may or may not have changed

166215 was being worked on yesterday to have the door mods done. 166205 hasn't been out for some time as it is being used for testing equipment and as a Depot "Christmas Tree".

No swap from Reading yesterday. 166221 still showing on Control list at Long Marston. No idea what those moves were.

I'm pretty sure 166221 is already down in the Bristol area, I thought I saw it at Temple Meads yesterday...

Speaking of 221, I noticed that it appears to have gained a yellow nose very recently - Has this finally replaced the splodge (for want of better word) of the GWR Silver paint which covered a graffiti spot?

If it was green it may have been 166220 which was active yesterday, I saw it at Temple Meads around 17:15 on my way back from Weston SM. 166221 is still in FGW Blue.

Probably, I seem to recall it was stopped for a spot of painting prior to it’s departure to LM.

165221 should be in GWR Green when it comes out of Long Marston

Are you sure about that? None of the units have been turned green at LM. All have been done at Wolverton.

Some units went to LM in FGW livery but then went straight to Wolverton where they went Green and returned to Reading.

The bulk of remaining Turbo duties in the Thames Valley are accounted for by the North Downs Line, Newbury/Bedwyn and Banbury-Oxford-Didcot (with a few extending to/from Reading).

The Branches as well and the Oxford fasts presumably. You still see Turbos going flat out on the mains between Paddington and Reading.

More of an assumption because the 153s were re-liveried at LM .Probably would depend on owning ROSCO

166215 now has local door control (other 166s as above.)

Ah ok, it possibly could then, we’ll see when it gets out. Although I’m not 100% if it’s coming back to Reading or going straight to SPM when released.

If 166205 and 216 are out of use (I assume that 215 is now operational) and taking into account the release of 150/1s to Northern then in terms of the number of available units Bristol/Exeter haven't gained anything so far. The departure of 5 x 153s next month won't help the situation.

I assume that 150926 is still with GWR. Also still trying to find out what has happened to the former centre car of 150925.

Thanks to everyone for their contributions, much appreciated.

166215 and 166216 have been working all along. It just meant that they couldn't call at the short platforms. 150925 and 150926 no longer exist and have reverted back to 125 and 126. The two centre cars 57209 and 57212 have been removed and are at StPhillips Marsh having some work done on them in readiness to move to Northern.

That now makes 17 out of 21 166's now cascaded to Bristol. Seems just like yesterday that 150/1's were operating majority of those diagrams.

166218 has gone to SPM for tyre turning. Don’t know if planned to stay on completion or return to RG.

Having seen 166221 in traffic at Oxford today, it is still in FGW blue. Was forming the Great Malvern portion of the 07.50 from Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh/Great Malvern.

Railway Magazine reports that GWR are to acquire 19 x 769 Flex units and that a similar number of Turbo units will be transferred to Bristol. Does that mean that GWR will then have too many DMUs based at Bristol for their needs and will they shed more units to other TOCs? Perhaps the 158s?

No plans to shed further units to other TOCs - it would just enable capacity increases further West.

It could well allow for the Angel Trains 150 units to transfer to Northern though, as Northern had leases agreed for them, 150202 and 150216. The two toiletless 150/2 cars owned by Angel are meant to be off to Northern very soon anyway.

Maybe if there's more Turbos going to Bristol due to GWR ordering 769s, 165/166s could mark Exeter as their territory? 8-)
