I got on 166214 Saturday evening working a Cardiff to Taunton service. Whilst GWR green externally and looking smart, internally in FGW blue it looked tatty despite having a new disabled toilet.

I I sat in one of the declassified First Class sections and it smelt damp, the buttons on the seats to make them recline were broken and the carpet was filthy. I think once the 150 interior refresh is completed, a start needs to be made on these. Whilst the 166s are newer, have a semi operating Air Con system and offer an increase in capacity, the interior on a refreshed GWR 150/2 is much nicer.

They are very tired now. I presume we are waiting for the 2 plus 2 seating plan to be formalised before they start refreshing them

The seats on 166s have never reclined; the button is for your reading light.

Never realised that, but no light came on when I pressed the button. What a funny place to have a light switch, that is where a recline leave or switch usually is.

There are still a few 166's at Reading Traincare but majority of the fleet has moved over to St Phillips Marsh. All 165's to remain at Reading Traincare for a few months yet.

It’s a bit of a 50/50 split at the moment as was posted upthread at #413:

No 165s gone to the Marsh yet. As for the 166s if it’s had the Ride Height Mod, it’s gone to the Marsh. All the non RHM sets are at Reading.

Edit to add numbers:

166202, 203, 204, 205, 206, 208, 210, 212, 214, 216 & 219 = SPM

166201, 207, 209, 211, 213, 215, 217, 218, 220 & 221 = RDG

166211 is currently away at Long Marston for Mods by Angel Trains.

Not all have switched depot allocation yet though. If i call up the RDG fleet on Intergrale, it still shows some of the sets that are currently working out of SPM.

Here's a link to a gallery of pics (MMPA website) taken during their last big refurb in 2011-12. IIRC it was done in-house at the old Reading Turbo depot. The internal panels were resprayed, seats covered in the First Capital Connect moquette (same seats as FCC 365s). They are probably due another refresh soon, some panels (doors, vestibules) look really tired due to repeated graffiti removal.

I was on a Turbo for one of the evening Weymouth services for the first time today. The ex-first class seats are so comfy. Much better than the usual 2 x 150 too but the platform was quiet today...

I was riding on 2O97 this evening. It stopped at Frome and for about 5 minutes or so the doors didn't open (166210).

Saw a video last night of a 165 back around 2002 in NSE colours at Bristol TM. Did these units work to Bristol regularly back then?

Can't speak for the electric varieties but in almost 20 years of using Turbos, I've hardly seen any problems with the doors.

166207 has a similar fault on Monday had Bristol.

Is that a fault that happens regularly on the networker family?

My understanding - and although I was in the office at the time, I wasn’t directly involved so I may be leading y’all up the Garden path - is that the door faults were related to the new SDO system fitted (which isn’t present on the electric flavours of Networker).

Jimm is correct in that door faults on Turbos in the Thames Valley were exceptionally rare - indeed majority of door “faults” that did occur were due to obstructions or similar in the mechanism left by careless passengers/vandals. They also didn’t like being opened and closed repeatedly in rapid succession.

There are no Class 9 Headcodes shown in the system on Cardiff to Taunton Turbos after today, running as Class 9s due restrictions through Platform 1 at Newport. I was looking at some CIS Boards on "Tiger" this morning and, on looking at Newport, I noticed that 9U08 was shown on Platform 1 with the Number flashing to denote platform alterations. So I decided to follow it on Open Time Trains Tracker and it used Platform 1. Has anybody got any info to confirm if the restrictions have been dealt with and removed.

I wonder when these turbos will be refreshed and whether the 165s will gain carpet given they will work with 166s on the pompey to cardiff runs

Would it be possible for this list to be updated please? I think 207 and 213 are now at PM. Are they all in use yet?
Is there a list anywhere of the 150/1s that have been transferred to pastures new - and indeed any other units, I think some 153s are due to go?

I would assume 213 is down here now, given the fact I just rode that one from Yatton to Temple Meads! Not seen 207 yet though.

There are currently 7 166s still in the LTV fleet.

Off the top of my head (I’m not in work for a few days to check) but Reading still has:

166201, 215, 217, 218, 220 & 221 available for traffic.

Thanks for information. I am trying to keep track of the cascade and this is most helpful.

Is it known how many 165s will eventually transfer to Bristol?
