Great news I am glad it has found a new home, and atleast not with the 'Brighton Belle' group...

Hopefully 1498 will be next in line for a new home :)

Excellent news for the slammer fans amongst us (I include myself in that statement). It's a shame it won't be run on the juice now, but who knows what the future has in store for 1497? It may well run on a railtour on the juice again in a few years time, I'd imagine that may well have to wait until rules on slammers are relaxed a bit though.

Either way, good news and congratulations to all those involved in securing 1497 for preservation :D

Excellent news, who knows - perhaps the opportunity for it to visit the main line again may arise in the future :)

Would have been better if they did the Brighton-Seaford service now instead of 313s :)

I'm sure most things require work before they go back on the mainline!

Such as ex barry steamers - remeber at one time there was a ban on mainline steam, then mainline diesel & electric preserved locos.

Great news regarding 1497 Hope 1498 will also go into preservation

As posted tonight on the End of the Line Forum, 3 CIG, 1497
"Freshwater" has been bought for preservation by a group of people
well versed with the class. It will move to the Mid Norfolk Railway in
due course.

And I know the people who bought it, I was one of the people that knew before anyone else. I was hoping it was gonna go to swanage. oh well

Actually I was speaking to a mate and he says its not in bad nick, he says it could eaily run top and tailed with a loco or on its own

Swanage already have a 4-TC unit under restoration (not on the line - unfortunately there's just no space at the moment!).

have been informed 1498 has been scrapped is this so?

I am not to sure, but a member of SWT staff I talk to said it had parts theived from it at Bournemouth depot and it was unlikely it was going to be preserved now as its in such a state internally, and it may be scrapped. (If is has not been already)

This is third hand infomation, what I have heard not to sure if its actually true, but upsetting if it is.

If only I had room for it, but unfortunately flats aren’t very conducive to keeping a full sized unit.

Some very fond memories of those 2 units and all the others that used to traverse the SWML.

Received some information from the person involved in the sale of the two Slammers to say that no parts have been robbed or damaged but 1498 has been sold, but I have asked so hopefully I'll be able to find out where it'll end up. :)

The green one will be on it's way to Ongar in the new year, and once the line opens will be pulled by a green class 37 :D

Get down there in the next few weeks then, because soon it will move over to the engine shed to get some work done on the under frame. At the same time everything else that moves will be run to North Weald so that the track can be replaced and lowered at Ongar.

I really should put some of the photos I have online.

Cheers for that. I'll be down South in a couple of weeks so I might try and get there then.
