What's been said about Reading? I've a couple of colleagues, in the talent pool, who may be interested in what was said.

They said the talent pool is full and there would be a delay in processing any more applicants into reading. As Ewie said above, they gave use the option to change to Oxford or Paddington, however we could stay with reading if we wished.

the screen with the grey square I hit twice by mistake, resting fingers on green button(what a tw@t).

Don't go beating yourself up over that; everyone I know hit it at least once during the test when they shouldn't have done; I hit it twice and still passed so they don't expect perfection over the full 30 minutes.

I did the exact same thing within the first 2 minutes, trying to get comfortable and rested my fingers on it..... and I still passed.

How did you feel about the other tests?

Confident on the group bourdon, the dials test I was a little slower than the look of a few others but probably no mistakes.same with the ball control one,I took longer but tried to keep it in track.not sure what there looking for with that one.
Must of got a few wrong on the photo study one.

If that's all you'll be fine, I believe the dials is more accuracy based, i really enjoyed that one and found it easy also the "phone book" and beeps... I found part 3 easier than the rest.

I came away from the 2 hand feeling like I had failed as I struggled on the "slalom" and it was beeping like crazy. The traffic photos.... talk about blink and you miss it!..., a slight false sense of security with the practice photo!!

I walked away double questioning myself on every test believing I had failed... possibly as like everybody else I don't even know the pass threshold.... but I passed.

You'll be fine and by next Tuesday when you get your email you'll be thinking about the MMI.

I don't my assessments on Wednesday and got the email confirming I have passed today. It was my second attempt having failed my first try with MTR Crossrail. It was a relief to finally pass it and the ladies doing the assessments have confirmed that there are more posts available soon at Paddington then there are at Oxford and Reading. Congratulations to all those who passed and good luck to those who will be taking assessments soon.

Has anyone actually down the MMI yet? I know they probably won't ask each individual the same questions but wondered if anyone knew how many questions they asked and what to expect?

Everybody gets asked the same 6 questions bro.
1. Describe a time where you've been involved in an emergency situation.
2. Describe a time when you had to solve a difficult problem.
3. Describe a time you was on a training course over 2 weeks or your greatest achievement
4. Describe a time where you had to work long periods alone
5. Describe a time where you had to follow rules and procedures
6. Describe a role you do that's similar to a train driver

So do we find out if we actually passed the stage 1 assessments before the MMI or just that we completed them and we will do the MMI regardless?

Congrats Beany. I also got invited to do the assessment for Virgin Trains this week but yet to hear about MMI for GWR. I'm hearing that Vjrgin offer more money. Does anyone know the process for applying for 2 TOCs at the same time? Do your results just transfer over to the other company if you've completed the stages with one before?

Well just done my DMI today. Lasted nearly 2hrs and was pretty in depth. Nick and Ian who conducted the interview were really on the ball and made sure I went into much detail, but at the same time helped me to relax and get over any nerves I had. At the end I was quite happy with my input and fingers crossed I get a positive result. Now to be very patient and await the email to see how I've done. Fingers tightly crossed.

Would also just like to add that after going to Oxford today and speaking to them with regards to the company and the role of driver I am even more excited than I was before if that is possible. It sounds like an amazing company to work for and they really look after their employee's.

Good Luck to everyone applying.

Well there was 14 or so at the test day so I was surprised to see only 2 of us for the mmi interview.
We both sat together and filled out the pre interview form which consisted of the 6 well known questions (or in slightly different wording) then handed them in 25 mins later.
I don't know how the other chap got on but I passed !!
The lady told me straight after the interview was over.
I felt it wasn't going well tbh and she had to dig to get the answers sometimes.
But at the end she gave me some advice for the next stage.
Just wished I'd asked how many vacancies there are to know how much of a chance I've got.
Did you get through ?

beany well done mate and a big congrats on passing your MMI.

I asked at my DMI about how many vacancies there were and was simply told that they require alot of new drivers.

Well that's sounds good,I take it you haven't been told the result of your Dmi yet kev ?
I'm waiting for an email confirmation of my pass and a date of my Dmi so I can study up in preparation.

Well done guys and good luck for the DM's!!
Remember it's imperative you do your research on the TOC so make sure you know about the current fleet, lines operated and some route knowledge of your route. Also how much people they employ and the values of the toc and who the MD is (Managing director).

Also make sure you fully understand the role of a train driver and a train drivers role and responsibilities i:e carry passengers from point A to point B safely in accordance with schedule, constantly contacting control centres to ensure routes are clear and that any problems along the routes are reported etc.

Apart from the obvious which is dressing smart (nice suit and clean shirt and shoes) I strongly strongly recommend that you go down to the toc where your interview will be taken and ask to speak to the train manager. Just to ask him about the toc and more about the role of a train driver and what he expects of you of course this is information you can research online but it shows enthusiasm and motivation and it's worth its weight in gold.

Good luck!

Beany,

Yep I'm still waiting on the result of my dmi, it's been nearly 3 weeks now. But I suppose no news is good news.

That is some fantastic advice from gekko and you really do need to know all you possible can about the company. I was caught out a little on a few questions, but still hoping I made up for it on other questions.
