Straight forward question, as inspired by this thread: What newspaper(s) do you read?

You may choose more than one option in the poll. Newspapers are ordered according to their "style" (based on Wikipedia, plus the Metro). I have deliberately omitted minor, local and Sunday papers for clarity. If you read it/them on the Internet rather than on paper, that is permitted provided it is (or they are) your newspaper(s) of choice. If you would read it/them but are put off by the price, but otherwise "support" that (or those) newspaper(s), that counts also.

I personally would choose The Times, and am pleased that FGW provide it in First Class. However, its price is somewhat off-putting for a student with minimal budget but (usually :roll very efficient Internet access, so I use the BBC site instead. I might also pick up the Metro when out-and-about, but usually steer clear of the low class (and efectively tabloid) Features nonsense which is far too prevalent in it. Unfortunately, my family all think that the likes of The Sun and the Daily Star are worthwhile, so - as is so often the case - I'm the black sheep. D'oh.

Generally anything I find left behind on trains; very rarely will I buy one, but if I do, it'll be the i on a Saturday, and only for the football section, never would I read the news in it.

Of choice I'd probably read the Express or Telegraph, you'd need to have a Winchester Repeater to the side of my head before I picked up a Guardian or Mirror.

I read both The Herald and The Scotsman, whenever I'm in Scotland. Both very good quality papers IMHO

Strangely enough, it is my wife who takes the Financial Times in our home. This is the only newpaper that we have a paid subscription for, but we do take a number of magazines (The Economist, Cheshire Life, Modern Railways, etc).

I'm not really one for newspapers, as such.
The only one I read at all regularly is the Metro, but in my job that's hardly surprising.

The only one I regularly read is the Evening Standard, and only that because it is free. The only ever time I pay for a newspaper is when going on a very long journey and need something to read.

I read quite a few, but not all on a daily basis by any means. I read The Times and the I or The Independent quite a lot. I also read FT.com, but don't tend to buy the paper as I am only interested in selected business and commerce news.

I do glance at the Mail Online from time to time, just to see what their take is on events and what The Outraged think of it all. :roll:

The New York Times and the Süddeutsche Zeitung are two others I read online, mainly because I find non-UK perspectives really interesting and the latter keeps language skills up.

I read The Sun, and Metro. The Sun is good for those quirky bits of news that you probably would'nt otherwise hear, and I read Metro if I pick it up on the bus.

I'll occasionally buy either The Guardian or The Times but only if I need some reading material whilst travelling buy train. I'll also read The Independent but normally only when I get given a free copy on East Coast. I like all three even with their differing political bias, I either enjoy either reading stuff I agree with or seeing the other sides take on the news.

I'll look to see if there's a Metro lying around on a train, but I don't buy anything regularly, and I won't really bother browsing through a paper if I find one on a train or in a Cafe, since they're all full of stuff about politics or drivel about the "Games".

I do not buy newspapers at all these days. On Saturdays and Sundays I download articles from the online editions of the Guardian/Observer, Telegraph, Glasgow Herald, Birmingham Post, Mirror, Mail and Independent and read them on my iPad.

In the days when I used to buy newspapers every day, it was the Guardian and the Independent during the week, Observer, Sunday Times and IoS on Sundays. I stopped buying newspapers except at weekends in the late 90s and later dropped the Independent and bought the FT on Saturdays instead.

In the 80s, lunchtimes were never quite complete without the Guardian crossword.

I'll read anything left on a train/bus, apart from the Sun.

In order of preference - Tellygraff, Indie/i, Morning Star, Times, Mirror, Mail, Star, Grauniad, Express, Sun.

I also read The Sun. I find it a nice easy read, perfect for those stressful days. I also quite like the Mystic Mes horriscopes and the Dear Deadry

That would have to be my vote.

I was in the Leveson Enquiry last week when proposals for a potential Regulatory framework for the Press was being presented and cross-examined. It was clear that Leveson LJ was very interested and wanted to include these proposals in his own Report when he writes it over the summer, but there was some debate about the threshold below which a small paper would not be captured by the Regulatory framework.
The threshold was presented in terms both of turnover and circulation, and was intended to leave small, local or sub-regional papers outside the scope of the proposals.
Leveson asked if that would capture Private Eye and was clearly very relieved to hear that it would not, and the Eye would not be subject to the proposals.

I agree. Private Eye is the only 'paper' I read. At least it prints stories that the others won't print, even if can be unreliable, school-boy-ish and is sued more often than any other paper (alledgedly).

As with Dave, I only purchase Private Eye in paper. I have digital subscriptions to both the FT and the Graun.

Independent, Times and Torygraph. The latter only because it is useful for disappearing behind if you want to have an undisturbed journey. Sometimes the more local papers, the Yorkshire Post in its erstwhile county or the Press and Journal in Aberdeen. I've occasionally scanned other papers that I've found lying around, and generally they've only been slightly more rubbish. It's a way to stop being bored or to make sure that people leave you alone (and quietly write down numbers while pretending to do the crossword ).

I was very grateful when I found somewhere selling the Indy in Geneva once, it's how I learnt that England had won the Ashes in 2009.

Private Eye (usually from Holyhead on a Wednesday afternoon!) Western Mail, Wales on Sunday and The Rugby Paper for me. Guardian Online too.
