Sorry if already mentioned earlier in the thread, searching Denton didn't bring anything up

Someone on twitter has noticed that Denton & Reddish South not only has a Saturday service instead of a Friday service but now has a direct train to Stockport!

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/Y59005/2018/06/02/advanced

Also it appears Styal has gained an hourly service.
That's interesting, I knew the service had moved to Saturdays but didn't realise they had reversed the direction.

:D I need to have a go at Stalybridge-Stockport. Been meaning to do it for years but without an easy way to Stockport on a Friday morning I've not bothered yet.

There is one through service per day, but I don't see anything to suggest the diagrams work in the way you describe?

There appears to be a daily single journey through service 07.21 Leeds to Clitheroe via Man Victoria. Wonder if this will be 158 operated?

It won't be 158 operated. It will be a 150/153 combo. It looks like a Leeds - Vic and a Vic - Clitheroe have been combined to make it a through service at Vic.

I am not at all happy with these changes. The last train from Manchester to Mauldeth Road or Burnage is 25 minutes earlier. This breaks connections off the 2140 from London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly and the 2138 Hull to Manchester Piccadilly and will ruin some of my plans.

The current last train still runs, passing these stations non-stop. Several later trains also run including one that calls at East Didsbury and Heald Green, but for some reason it does not stop at Mauldeth Road. On Sunday night / Monday morning a much later train than usual runs, arriving well after midnight. So the key message here is that they can run later trains, and that they are going to spend extra money running extra late trains, and they will stop at two of the stations en route, in accordence with the daytime pattern, but they have forgotten to ensure that the last train as it currently exists is preserved in the new pattern. It also appears not to comply with the tsr. This is just crazy.
Because the Labour Champagne Socialists at Manchester City Council and TfGM live there. We couldn't allow that could we? It's the truth. Same reason they got the Metrolink tram link from East Didsbury despite there being a strong rail and bus station less than 100 yards away. Joke.

Really?! The Metrolink line already supports 10tph and had been considered since Metrolink was first planned. Chorlton and Didsbury are big markets for Metrolink and the railway station and bus stops nearby are precisely why it made sense to continue on the old line past Didsbury Village to East Didsbury. Northern have had to completely rewrite their timetable at very short notice, I very much doubt their choice of stops was motivated by the whims of Labour councilors!

Yes, East Didsbury has been part of Metrolink plans since the 1984 study! And the resulting popularity of the route is plain for all to see. Probably the highest demand of all the Phase 3 extensions.

In case it's not been mentioned there's an FL class 66 running Leeds - Hebden bridge an back most afternoon's. I understand its route learning Grand Central drivers for the Hebden bridge Leeds service. Lot of machinery to route learn with

The 1980s studies looked at every possible option for light rail/trams. It looked like they had decided there will be light rail/trams and it's just a case of what the routes will be, not whether or not it happened. Hadfield, Stockport, Rose Hill Marple, Salford and Rochdale were all considered as well. In the end I think they chose Bury because it had an in-need-of-replacement third rail system meaning BR were glad to get rid of it, then they chose the Altrincham line as it was a well used rail route beyond Deansgate so they were sure to get a lot of passengers by converting it - while creating a new line to East Didsbury or Salford would have costed more and they wouldn't have been guaranteed to get as many passengers straight away.

And what quite has that got to do with station workings at Preston?!

What is the source of this information? I can find no through trains from Leeds to Clitheroe. Trains to Clitheroe start/terminate at Rochdale.

There are a number of other things that are in the PDFs but not in the timetable data. It's not that surprising given the problems they've been having.

I've noticed in that guide there's a 1755 Todmoden (Starts at Blackburn) to Kirkby
And an hour earlier there's one to Wigan NW. Both look like peak hour variations for reasons no doubt known to Northern (no equivalent variations in the morning peak ex Southport)

Presumably a way of rotating stock between routes

If only they would be direct in the other direction. But which timetable will this train go in?

Surely 1758 is much better than 1716? If you finish work at 5 and can't get to the station in 14 minutes or less then you are stuffed at present...

.
I agree the current service is a bit early but, for someone who works 9-5 (which I revognise isn't everyone but is effectively who the limited service is aimed at) 1758 feels a little late. It's moving the Leeds arrival to 0850 that is the bigger issue though. That hardly leaves time to get out of the station by 0900, let alone get to work.

On the new pdf timetable for Leeds - Sheffield/Doncaster, it shows a very useful Saturdday service from Leeds to Doncaster departing at 23:30, yet NRE still isn't showing any such train.

Has the system just not been updated, or has this service been abandoned/postponed ?

As far as I can see there's a 23:31 SX service, but no SO, one of only two that are SXs.
