The left never fail to amuse me with this sort of rubbish.

To equate our Olympic celebrations with the Nazis is contemptible but entirely predictable.

Because he wasn't considered for the opening ceremony he has to rubbish our efforts to try and get himself some publicity.

Why do the left find it so hard to celebrate anything this country achieves, they take absolute delight in trying to knock any success we ever have.
Seen on Twitter earlier a tweet which read: "Bolt with a thorn in his side". Sums up Morrissey neatly:lol:

Keep your copy of today's Daily Express. It'll be worth a bit in years to come. They celebrate the achievements of the Team GB equestrians, with a front page photo of...........Team Netherlands;)

The Manchester Velodrome has now proved its worth in terms of the resurrection of British cycling at top international level and the standard of the coaching staff there since its inception. Some of our top stars are fairly local in residence to this facility.

Yes this is very true, I have often heard Chris Hoy singing its merits :p

Yup after a quiet Wednesday Team GB burst back into life again taking our gold count to twenty five and our total medal count to over fifty (which was my personal target for Team GB ;)). I fear it's going to be quite a comedown in four years in Rio :(

We just missed out on a sailing gold in the men's 4-7-0 (sounds like an asymmetric steam loco, doesn't it?). The Aussies were ahead going into the final race, with GBR having the only boat that could catch them, and even then by finishing at least 2 places ahead. As it is, they were second, we were fourth, so a silver.

The BBC's commentators have got into trouble for being too patriotic, and the director general wants them to concentrate more on 'other great sporting achievements'. It's basically the same thing that got Geoffrey Boycott into trouble for saying 'us' instead of 'England'. Probably, they will just ignore it, and it's nowhere near as extreme as some other nations.

I like the way the US journalist in that article claims that their commentators aren't so patriotic for their home athletes. Really? I don't believe that for a second. It's a shame that someone always has to find something to complain about - I don't see any harm in our commentators celebrating our athletes triumph, yes there are other competitors, but what's wrong with celebrating a 'home' victory?

Isn't that just typical BBC, we wait 64 years for the Olympics to come along then the state broadcaster tells its presenters not to concentrate on the U.K.

No other country in the world would take this attitude most are far far more patriotic then we ever are.

Self-glorification isn't something we're known for in this country. The BBC, and other outlets, have all failed to put the Olympics in the Sport section where it f*cking belongs!!

The Torygraph is never going to pass up an opportunity to attack the "leftist" BBC (you'd think the so-called state broadcaster would agree with the government of the day?)

That's not how I read it.

Mark Thompson was quoted as saying

I am as delighted as our audiences and the whole BBC team about the brilliant performance of Team GB – and it is quite wrong to suggest otherwise.
...
The BBC has been right to focus on sporting achievements which the whole country has been celebrating and we will continue to do so with pride.
We can do that while at the same time making sure that our news programmes fully reflect some of the other great sporting achievements and human stories of the London Games.

Sounds reasonable to me - great that TeamGB are doing so well, just remember there's an entire Olympics going on - and the BBC do generally seem to be covering that.

It would be more reasonable, in my opinion, to remember that there are other things happening apart from the Olympics! I refer, of course, to the news programmes, which seem to be just as obsessed with the events as the sports programmes which infest almost every BBC channel for most of the day!

I think it is most fortunate that the Olympics were organized for the only two weeks of the year when there was not enough news to fill the slots so the media had to make do with sport. You have to congratulate them on their prescience.

Even worse is they make it the headline (annoying but understandable) but then go on to repeat it in the sport section later!

Excellent post! I've almost split my sides!

It's even worse when your regional news programme has a lead story concerning a medal winner, which is exactly the same as the one that has just been on the main news, except for a couple of pointless shots from the home town!

The Syrian regime must be particularly pleased with the timing of the Olympics.
