VT have tweeted that it should be out today on the 18:03 Euston to new street and 19:50 return. They used the term pretendolino in the tweet so it's now in common use!!

It was indeed out, with 90041 providing the locomotion. Pity I only heard about it after it had gone through Coventry on the down, so only managed to get it between Coventry and Rugby...

Anyone know why it was out today? Are Virgin a Pendo short due to maintenance or something?

I am told it is a test run to Crewe, then to Nuneaton.

Not sure what happens after Nuneaton, but no sign that it's been scrambled ( yet! ) so I suspect it will head back to Wembley.

It seems to have run from Wembley to Nuneaton as 5T90, a VSTP working; it was booked to continue to Crewe but was cut short at Nuneaton and is now on its way back to Wembley as 5T91. Whether it will do anything this evening remains to be seen...

Edit: Virgin's Twitter people saying no plans for any further runs tonight, as far as they're aware.

Having tweeted Virgin Trains, they seemed completely clueless about the idea of 1Z04, 1Z07, 1Z16 and 1Z19 being loco and stock, they are under the impression that they will be Voyagers :(

Can anyone elaborate? - I really fancy a ride on the mk3s behind a 57/3!

Thanks for your help.

Joseph.

Blockade busters are always going to be Voyagers now, why drag out MkIIIs for it? They run on the 25th.

Ah right, missed that. I was using Virgin's website's engineering calendar, which just said "Alterations to services in the West Midlands" or something similarly vague.

And yes, it will be Voyagers. The Pretendolino is only one rake, so it couldn't work all the services, and it'd also be far too short considering Virgin usually use 15-car services on blockade services and they're usually quite full (as they're standing in for several services at once).

I see what you are saying and I have my suspicions about them being Voyagers.

Simply going off this info:

I think I know where I'll be on Sunday 25th August then...

More to the point, what route do these trains take from the Chiltern Line to Euston?

What a shame, oh well. Cheers guys. :)

This info sorry:

Some gen I have found states that WB64 is running on 25th August 2013. Traction will be TNT class 57's and it will be running between London Euston and Birmingham International. I presume there is Chiltern diverts as 15 car voyagers are also on the agenda.

The timings are:

1Z04, 10:04 London Euston - Birmingham Intl (calls unadvertised Banbury & SDO Coventry).
1Z07, 12:48 Birmingham Intl - London Euston (calls Coventry PUO & unadvertised stop Banbury)
1Z16, 16:04 London Euston - Birmingham Intl (calls unadvertised Banbury & SDO Coventry).
1Z19, 19:07 Birmingham Intl - London Euston (calls Coventry PUO & unadvertised stop Banbury).

1Z04 / 07 / 16 / 19 are indeed the Mk 3 set; the seat reservation details for those runs match the Mk 3 layout....

Further reference to 25th August... I have it in writing from the VT HQ that the specific four trains we have been discussing are indeed diagrammed for the Mk3 set.

57 302 and 57 308 are the likely haulages - subject to the usual disclaimers, of course!

It is out on those workings I posted a while back and from what ive seen on twitter, it is packed! TM is not declassifying the train either. My advice to enthusiasts/spotters wanting a ride today is don't go. A lot of angry punters that people with cameras are taking space on the train.

I don't get how your average punters can be angry. Surely enthusiasts have just as much right to be there as them, as they all have tickets.

In fact, surely an enthusiast may take up less room on the train as their head will be out the window

The point that im saying is that it is chaos :) although yes, most spotters will be in the vestibule areas! ;)

Its 57302 & 304

I know... I was on board 1Z04 and 1Z07. With seat reservations in carriage A both ways. Yes it was fairly crowded, but it wasn't as bad as the above posts seem to make out and certainly nobody was angry.

Apparently there was one idiot window flailing on 1Z07 shortly after departure from International, though. Staff were not very happy about that.

When is anyone going to fit TDM to some diesel locos so you don't need to top & tail even though there is a DVT in the formation? Surely that would make occasions like this and Great Yarmouth drags much cheaper.
