Does anybody know if the fate of the pretendolino has been decided? Scrap, lease to other TOC? Utilised for extra services once Shrewsbury link is opened up? For me, it should have definitely been used this Christmas just gone as the 10 car voyagers were truly awful from a passengers point of view. The previous time Chiltern diverts were in place, (Easter time 2012) the capacity was greatly increased with the pretendolino as voyagers could run as 15 cars.

I appreciate that it may be unpractical for VT to run, but surely another operator could use a spare 82 + mk3's. Greater Anglia for instance or Chiltern Railways? Instead of it wasting away at Wembley yard.

Thoughts anyone?

A Class 82 would be great! They were awesome!

ANECDOTE ALERT. I was on a school trip to London many years ago; got back to Euston to find a train at the platform adjacent to us, Class 82 on the front, and my father in the driving cab! We got to Crewe in 1hr 62min - and the 82 must have matched us!

Id be really intrested if anyone has any details of when/what the pretendolino will be used for and what the purpose of this driver training is. Could it be running 1K39 again? I'd like to see it on a Liverpool peak train and then return to WB on the last train. Maybe it could work 1F24 or 1F25 on Fridays. It can do EUS - LIV in 2 hours 40 mins. I've seen it done... Just an idea ;)

I can't for the life of me find it now, but at the back end of last year I saw it in the news section of a site (can't remember which, possibly a rosco or wnxx or something like that) to say that the lease for the pretendolino rake had been renewed for charter/emergency use.

Actually hilarious that there's a train full of united fans from London as well as people making their own way there. Let's hope for another 6-1.

Wonder if you can get the train without a match ticket. How do these specials even work ticket wise, are they subject to standard fares? Considering many fans go to games in at least pairs, and some in groups of 4-5, surely the fares have to be competitive to keep fans from driving and splitting fuel costs?

On a train somewhere in Europe
Don't know about boarding / ticket arrangements but it was being announced as a private charter for Thomas Cook for special ticket holders only at Euston. I would have investigated further but didn't want to miss my own train however I did see two Man U shirt wearing persons being turned away from it before boarding was announced.

A very good point.. I have made similar observations about the massive amount of decent locos that DBS are sitting on that are basically rotting..

When I suggested on another thread about the use of loco and coach stock to relive chronic overcrowding on services here in Devon I got all kinds of grief..
Im with you, get the stock working, put it to good use!
Similarly I've been on about using ATW's mark2 coaches to relieve crowding on Manchester services (and hence start a cascade to avoid ATW's current misuse of class 150s, putting them on express services) for a while. Northern however have supposedly seen sense, with DRS supposedly preparing mark2s for Cumbrian coast work. Going by the DRS fleet update thread, they have also obtained a mark3 + DVT rake, I wonder what for?

TPE should leas it for anglo Scot work when the wires are up.
Not a bad idea, but the full rake is probably overkill given (I think) it's mostly only 3-car units at the moment. Alternatively, LM could use mark3s and class 90s on some of their more-express services (Liverpool - Birmingham trains?)

I wonder what will happen when the current lease for the rolling stock expires? The franchise has since been extended until 2017, so I hope that we see it back in regular- ish service once this current lease expires!!! I think the current one expires in 2014!

Some gen I have found states that WB64 is running on 25th August 2013. Traction will be TNT class 57's and it will be running between London Euston and Birmingham International. I presume there is Chiltern diverts as 15 car voyagers are also on the agenda.

The timings are:

1Z04, 10:04 London Euston - Birmingham Intl (calls unadvertised Banbury & SDO Coventry).
1Z07, 12:48 Birmingham Intl - London Euston (calls Coventry PUO & unadvertised stop Banbury)
1Z16, 16:04 London Euston - Birmingham Intl (calls unadvertised Banbury & SDO Coventry).
1Z19, 19:07 Birmingham Intl - London Euston (calls Coventry PUO & unadvertised stop Banbury).

By Class 82, I'm 99.9% sure he means a Driving Van Trailer (which are Class 82s on TOPS, 82101 onwards).
There is only one AC Electric Class 82 remaining, 82008, and that is highly unlikely to return to the mainline. It isn't even operational.
Thanks, Sam

They're not class 82s though, they're just numbered in the 82xxx series of the Non-Passenger Carrying Coaching Stock number range.

Unfortunately, Maps has stopped.
STOP PRESS
Saw the P-O-lino leaving Wembley yard today, on the down slow with what looked like (going backwards at 110mph, mind, so apologies if I'm wrong) a Skoda on the front. Any idea where it might have been going and why??

I doubt it. It's expensive to run and a pain to roster crew for. I believe it is well into borrowed time.

I hope they can arrange a new leasing agreement for it in 2014 as that's when I believe the lease ends, but do correct me of I'm wrong :)

I hope we can assume that the timed for a Voyager means zilch and that these are still booked 57s?

1Z04 is formed from 5Z04 from Wembley Inter City Depot, which is timed for a 390, for some reason, but importantly, it doesn't originate from Central Rivers so we can be pretty sure it is the Pretendolino. Also, 1Z19 becomes 5Z19 to Wembley Inter City Depot, and is actually timed for a diesel loco and LHCS.

I think I know where I'll be on Sunday 25th August then...

More to the point, what route do these trains take from the Chiltern Line to Euston?

Are these runs going to be "walk on" or strictly "reservation only"?

They are walk on, although if what happens to me at Christmas happens again and a train gets cancelled so there are double the number of people there should be, if you have a reservation you will get priority (although they declassify 1st before they start leaving people behind).
