Are there any classes in the UK that never need to run at top speed?

Or are there TOCs which never use their stock to top speed?

222's wont get to 125mph all that often (I'm not sure how regular the services to Scarborough are), indeed the vast majority won't at all during a normal working day.

Is there any 100mph running on the West Anglia? 317s are supposedly capable of a ton. I suppose the FCC fleet might get to do it.

Class 67's? Did they ever even run at the advertised 125mph during their post days?

317s most certainly can do 100mph - and they feel like you're flying compared to trains that are smoother/better sound proofed.

Class 507 (and probably 508)

Top speed is 70mph, but highest linespeed for Merseyrail is 60mph.

Do 142s ever get to 75mph? Only a couple of sections on the ECML I can think of where they would.

Maybe Downhill with the wind behind them  I certainly wouldnt like to be aboard one doing 75.

507's definately not (sure the max speed of a 507 is 75 though). And if the proposed 75mph upgrade to the Hooton-Chester section of the wirral line goes ahead then they soon will.

Do the 322s reach 100 between stations on the North Berwick run? Or on the Shotts ones for that matter?

322s in Shotts?

Do you mean the Edinburgh - Kirknewton - Carstairs - Motherwell - Glasgow trips?

Same here; would be a little wobbly at that speed, a little like a milk-float at 30 mph!
