Wye is difficult for me.
Edinburgh is Edin-buh-ruh. Edin-bruh is used by an increasing number of people Scots included.
I think it is difficult for others as well. 9 years ago I was admitted to Hereford Hospital where the wards are named after Herefordshire rivers. I was in Wye Ward but when I was ordering my meals, I noticed that I was listed as being in Y Ward
Or Embra. Once I was not understood by a barrista at Liverpool Airport when I told him where I was flying to.
Something like Suggall?Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow, any non-Glaswegians care to take a punt?
Something like Suggall?
I wouldn't pronounce it like that as a scouser. I think it comes out as Edinbreh from most of us.I've never heard Embra myself but I can understand how a Liverpudlian might say it that way.

Quite proud of myself there. Ha ha. Am best man at a wedding in Glasgow in August so I have to practise. Not quite! The hall is (generally) pronounced.

Kir-coo-bri isn't it?
think the main problem is going to be me having to wear a kilt. Ha ha.Ha ha ha. Yes, quite well done there Thank goodness the wedding isn't in Kirkcudbright or somewhere easy to get woefully wrong.

Wye in Kent is the same as why.

Hmm. The more I have thought about this the less sure I have become. But something like.... Sock-he-hall Street?
Mate I don't mind wearing a kilt. You haven't seen my legs though. Ha ha.What's wrong with wearing a kilt?
