The 442 does have a little bit of "oh damn, we forgot to leave somewhere to put the lights" about it though

I love the trains as a whole (well, not the doors) but the front's a little awkward to me - the wrap-around glass looks dated and if they'd not bothered putting hatch covers on them perhaps there'd have been room for a more usual light cluster.

I like the front end personally, though the DVTs are more stylish perhaps. The Irish Mk3 Driving Trailers have a pleasing sort of face quality to them. The Class 210 DEMU front ends never looked right to me some how.

I’m with those that have said the Fell locomotive. Hideous.View attachment 44895 Photo (not mine) of 10100 - A face only a mother could love. Could bite an apple through a tennis racket as they say.

Photo (not mine) of 10100. What an absolute munter...

I'd add to that this from a couple of years later:

The Class 310 / 312 EMUs weren't the most elegant of designs either.

And from the steam era - Bullied's Leader ? https://chasewaterstuff.wordpress.c...bulleid-leader-southern-railway/sr-leader-05/

Still think this takes some beating (not my photo):

I for one rather like the Class 442 front end - the trains are also sometimes called 'Plastic Piggies', which reflects the snout-shaped front end...

Goodness. If my child drew that I'd banish him to the attic for a week for being evil with trains. That's probably why I don't have any children.
Well I have got children and I’d do the same (only to the ones that are smaller than me now though).

I've only got cats but they ignore me all the time. Must sort out the lookalikes thread this weekend, you're more than welcome to kick it off, it was your excellent idea.

Trypophobia from the pattern of lights perhaps?

(DON'T Google it with images on if you think you may have it)

No way am I Googling that haha, know what it is. I think it's more the oversaturated yellow and for some reason, I'm seeing a distressed face in it.

I must be alone in thinking the 68s are somewhat lacking in the looks department... very strange front ends...
You're not alone.

They look like a bloated plastic SUV rather than a railway loco.

The class 70s are "ugly" in a way, but unlike the 68s they look like they mean business. When I first saw a picture of one I definitely thought "ugly" but now I quite like them.

If we're talking ugliest trains, then feast your eyes on a couple beasts from the past that I would consider being part of the ugly group. (Not my photos, credit goes to the photographers for https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_126 and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_128)

Firstly the Class 126

And then the Class 128

Although I would like to point out the Class 128 was quite the looker when it was first introduced as seen here http://www.railcar.co.uk/type/class-128/official

The other end of the class 126 DMU'S looked better, indeed, this end did before the gangway was removed. I believe the idea was for 2 three-carriage units to work together as a six-carriage formation, but as with so many things, the best laid plans don't always work! I haven't worked out how to put a picture on here but an image search on Google for 'class 126 dmu' comes up with plenty of examples. Definitely see what you mean about the 128, they looked better as built!

The original Edinburgh-Glasgow 126 predecessors looked very stylish in green made up as a full 6-car set.

345s are ugly as sin, not sure if they're my least favourite, but at the moment they stand out as particularly awful looking.

385s too.

My dad doesn't like the Class 314s. Dad used to say "ARRRGGHHH!" if we pass the Class 314 when we were driving.
They were plain boring - no toilets, no tables, low-back seating comparing to other units in the ScotRail fleet.
