Oh yes! Perhaps the ugliest steam loco ever. The huge bogies were wildly out of proportion to the body. (It was also a frightful job to fire it, as the poor fireman was stuck in a tiny space between the coal-bunker and firebox.) Bulleid's turf-burning loco in Ireland was a better-looking loco.
To me it just looks like a 1983 stock tube train, without doors or windows and massive bogies

See?
Brilliant!
And it’s just reminded me that I always thought John Noakes looked like a class 24...

Might have got those the wrong way round. Can’t be sure though.

Ha, brilliant. I'm not the only one to see faces on the front of trains. James Bolam and a class 22. DeForest Kelley (Star Trek) and a Class 50.

I've bottled that up for 45 years. Boy it feels good.

Might make quite a good thread sometime...

I always thought the 47, 56 & 87 just looked like transit vans. The 321 is definitely a Ford Sierra MkII.

Ok, now this is getting a bit silly. Whatever it is you lot are smoking, please do pass it round :D
I've heard of some units being referred to as "Darth Vaders", but I always thought the 700s resembled Stormtroopers.

I think I would add the "Flying Brick" railcars to the list, they look quite literally as there nickname suggests and not very pretty at all.

I'm surprised nobody has said DBSO!

The flat end of Driving Van Trailers doesn't look as good as the 90/91 styled end, it's like it's crashed into a wall but just flattened like it was something out of Looney Tunes.

A lot of the old MxxxxxM units were ugly things, the 506 just looks plain scary:

There's something unsettling about this picture.

The 1938 Underground stock had the same pattern of lights (some kind of route indicator?) and looked quite homely.

I think it's the high "forehead" on those 506 units, at least at the non-panto end, that looks weird.
That picture also looks slightly odd colour-wise, with a predominance of blue/grey "cold" colours combined with a bright yellow front end.

Yes, it's another Vivarail project, taking unwanted Underground stock, and turning them into go anywhere steam locomotives!

Oh... also forgot to mention the 2 car class 309/1 EMU on the GEML. Hideous things with the pantograph right above the corridor connection & the number box inside the corridor.

Well this just looks like a 442 without a gangway

I don't agree! The 442 looked as if it was properly designed and not a Mark II carriage attacked by someone with a hacksaw and pop-rivet gun.

Come on the 442 end is just the end of a Mk3 with two holes filled with glass and headlights.

You must be kidding - There's a significant amount of aesthetic consideration gone into the design of the class 442 cab, most readily apparent in combination with the original Network Southeast livery treatment, which really was striking.
