Can anyone confirm the situation at Gloucester? Why do the conductors sign HST traction, do they operate HSS and if so how does it work? Thanks.
When the West Conductor harmonisation which can wasn’t actually harmonisation took place a number of depots Worcester, Reading and Gloucester gained “HSS” work ie HST work.
At Worcester and Reading (former LTV/Thames Trains Depots) guards were given an option to remain Senior Conductors with the wage and terms or convert to Train Manager with the terms and wage.
Glcouester was given some HST work as the driver side was given some - drivers remaining on West pay not HSS.
Gloucester has or had (I left 2 years ago) a link of 8 or 10 train managers who worked both HST and units, often in the same diagram.
Worcester and Reading worked HST/180/Turbo sets.
Gloucester train managers are on HSS TM salary and terms, West conductors wishing to work HSTs need to apply for vacancies when they come up.
