An important milestone this weekend as Craigentinny offically transferred to Hitachi. (along with Bounds Green).

Who is going to maintain East Coast current stock, Neville Hill?
I'd have thought Hitachi, at the existing depots, under contract to LNER. The depots still have the same people and equipment; being officially handed over to Hitachi will I presume allow them to start on works to prepare them for the new stock, to train staff about the new stock and to indoctrinate them into the company culture of their new organisation.

Hitachi, under contract.

Watch reliability decline in an attempt to make the new trains look good - just like it did for Virgin when they handed West Coast and XC maintenance over to Alstom and Bombardier.

Loco failure last night?

Two light locos from Belmont showing on RTT, one already there and another nearly there

Looks like another ‘fault’ with a 385 this morning delaying it at Falkirk High, 8:27 service from Polmont never appeared.

If these faults continue Alex Hynes will have no option but to take matters into his own hands and grab a branch off a nearby tree , nip down to Queen Street station and give a 385 a damn good thrashing ! “ I have laid it on the line time and time again .......”. A Basil Fawlty moment would make a great media event !

I was at Queen Street this morning and noted people with Hitachi jackets looking at a unit (107). I also noticed how utterly tiny the destination board is on the front. The appearance is lightweight and cheap to my eye.

Adding to that, the destination screen on the side of each car isn't even deep enough to fully display the "g" in Glasgow. Looks like "Glasqow" - and quite cheap with it as you say.

I've seen a few 380s on the line today - presumably drafted in once again to deal with this new issue?
The 10:15 from Queen St was a 385 but the gangway between the two units was closed for some reason - it was a late arrival so I guess the resident hitachi fitter didn’t have time to look at it.

It’ll get better in time I’m sure.

The screens appear to be about the same size as the the other gangwayed units - the 365s are much bigger and certainly the clarity is better.

Too much negatively in the last few comments. I will predict that given their worldwide record of the best reliability in the industry that the Hitachi Class 385 will go to be the most reliable in the country. Does everyone forget the far more serious issues with the 355 and 380 introductions?

I think a service brake failure at speed in passenger service is pretty serious, as is a ghosting-effect with windscreens.

I'll be honest though, while I know there were issues with the 380s, it's that long ago since they entered service, I forget what those problems were.

I had a look at this tonight - the "g" is perfectly formed with 2 more spare lines of LEDs below it. Maybe you saw a faulty one.

It's unfortunate that door faults occurred on the same service a couple of days apart attracting critisism from the same people but they have been pretty minor and are being dealt with quickly now. Staff unfamiliarity didnt help either. Apart from that reliability has been building pretty well and lots of trains running now, new ones out almost daily.
