Just to update. 138 and 141 are now white. Just leaves 137 and 151-157 to be done.

you think the last pendo that goes for repaint will end up in the new colours of the next franchise, first trenitalia?

Properly white. Plan for doing it this way was that franchise change it will be easy to take of the sticker and put the new name on. Saves cost of rebranding. For voyagers only 221101 got permission to do it. I might be wrong, that’s what I heard.

The 390s were due to be painted anyway by the ROSCO as a mid life cleanup and corrosion preventative measure. A neutral colour was the way to go as Vinyls are the way forward, easily do the whole train or just parts of as required by the new TOC. Hopefully a descent livery!

221101 was just the ROSCO doing a demonstrator of what could be done. First Trenitalia are going to give them a re-fresh, whatever that means, as there only going to be with West Coast for the next 3 years.

Interesting. So FT will have taken over the WCML before all outstanding sets have been repainted.

By my reckoning there are about 13 weeks left from now 04//09/19 until the franchise changes to (LMS) London Midland Scottish Railway operated by First Trenitalia or whatever West Coast becomes.

I presume a new re-paint will be due out anytime soon. I think it's about 2 weeks to re-paint an 11 vehicle Class 390. 7 sets to do, so i can see sets 156 or 157 being released in the new West Coast franchise livery for launch day on 08 December 2019, with any luck they may even have a Class 221 re-liveried.

Pendolinos aren't going to be displaced? They're staying with First and new fleet will replace the 221s.

It's a shame that the Virgin livery is going, it isn't going to be the same without the little Virgin logo on the nose acting as a little smile. I hope First Trenitalia create their own tiny triangle on the front else it'll wreak the pendolino IMO!

The refresh of the 390's will have to be a good one, now HS2 project has been delayed until 2040 to Manchester. They will be nearly 40 years old by then.

Never said Pendolinos were going anywhere. There here with West Coast now until at least 2031and beyond, if HS2 does get to Crewe, then HS2 Classic compatible trains will do most fast services and 390s relegated to doing more stops. Class 221s will be gone from WC in 3 years, supposedly, as you say replaced by 13 new Bi-modes and 10 EMUs.

Well let's hope it is a good one, £117 million should help. But let's hope it's done right.
I'm afraid now they might cram in even more seats now HS2 is delayed by at least 5 years from 2026 to 2031.

I haven't been on a refurbished GWR HST (sadly the mainline ones are now out of service) but those looked quite nice. Hopefully First will do a good job, to me the Northern ones don't look great and look rather cheap.

The GWR IET standard interior looks awful and cheap and all

4 car HSTs still run between devon and wales if that helps at all

I could see First doing a good job with the 390s if they don’t replace the seats for cheap ones

It better be high quality considering the prices paid for now for virgin

Its ironic because 390137 used to be named Virgin Difference.. and now, its different from all other pendolinos.

Well it was specified by the DfT, who seem to not try seats before specifying them.

DfT were told you can have a seat costing £50, £100, £200 each so they just picked £50, cos it's cheapest and that is it!!:frown:

Does anybody from DfT actually use rail regularly? GWR interior is as bland as they come, thankfully LNER looks lots better. Strange how colour makes such a difference.

XD, bit sad they all lost their names really, TBH I'd had hoped more stock is named, but with TOC changes it just seems to get removed.

Yep, I think that by specifying better seats at least on the IEPs they could get more people onto trains. Having an uncomfortable seat really doesn't encourage people. Still it's the DfT who will always pick the cheapest and not the best.

Sad times no branding nothing left of it

Looks better without the naff looking silk effect. Shame the old Virgin livery is almost extinct on the 390s as it still looks fresh, but it obviously makes sense to ditch it.

let’s see what the future holds. Silver was on pendo for years. Diet Coke livery. Be missed!
