I've been keeping an ad hoc photographic record of the changes here
I am told that the slope from the subway to the Manchester bound side does not conform to current regulations and will be extended, coming on to the platform somewhere about where the demolished cafe stood

I'll be down to take some "before" photos tomorrow for my photo log at http://table38.co.uk/stalybridge.htm
Also Rassbottom Street is closed under the railway bridge outside the station from 3pm Monday 29th to 3pm Tuesday 30th - no idea why as yet.
Are they replacing the railway bridge? I'm just guessing?
I understood it was bridge repair works, from what my friend from Tameside tells me, and has two dates of work scheduling.
That would explain the closure of Rassbottom Street on 29/30 October.
I have edited my posting with further information now, if this of help.

Centre road is slower, but in effect that is a glorified loop anyway.
I think the diagram doesn't do the scheme justice. The cross-over at the east end is already in, but I am of the opinion that they will have to slew the main lines south a bit to get the connection from the Ashton-under-Lyne line to the new Platform 5 in, and I'm guessing they are also realigning the west-bound line at the east end due to the amount of platform they have chipped away!
Overall, speed limits will be increased from 40mph to 50
There is a later diagram on the NR Website to the one on the table38.co.uk/stalybridge.htm photo log. The track has been modified and it looks to show longer platforms to the ones originally shown by NR.
I do agree that the diagram (even the later one) shows the track work as being some what complicated but I think this is misleading.
What is not clear to me from both the earlier and later diagrams is if the modified bay (now to be platform 2) and the new bi directional platform 3 will be accessible to and from the Ashton direction as well as Guide Bridge. I assume it must but the arrows on the diagrams leave an element of doubt
Yes, the Ashton line can access all the platforms, the new platform 5 as mentioned will be Ashton line only though.
Thanks. That's what I thought. I take it therefore that all platforms, except 5,can be access from the Guide bridge direction.
Rassbottom Street there will be two way temporary signals in place from 5 November to 9 November from 9.30am - 3.30pm whilst bridge repair works are undertaken.
Rassbottom Street will be closed 29 and 30 October from 15.00 to 15.00, and the 31 October to 1 November from 03.00 to 03.00
Cool, I was hoping we were getting a crane! Hopefully I'll be able to get down to take some pics.
I did notice on Friday a new signal gantry at the east end of the station had suddenly appeared and there are new signals at the west end and what I assume is going to be a banner repeater on (current) Platform 1, plus some mystery grey poles.
I've uploaded the pictures I took on Friday to http://table38.co.uk/stalybridge.htm

One of the mystery grey poles. I'd have assumed they were for coach stop boards except there's a perfectly good lamp post next to it, or maybe that's gettiong ripped out!

I just wondered if this siding has been truncated or can it still be used to service Atchem.
That post looks like it is going to be very good at blocking the platform.
Isn't there meant to be a clear dimension from the edge on Platforms?
