It surely can’t be as small as it appears. The Unions would be kicking up a fuss if it were.

The wall that the DOO monitors and GSM-R terminal is on swings out in a similar way to the 380. In the above picture it is in position for when units are coupled together to close the cab off. It is, however still a cramped looking cab and makes the 380 cabs look massive!

Can you actually see ANY signals out of that mini-windscreen, let alone two or twenty-five at night ? :E:E<D

would it matter? Ideally it would be the 385s but anything that facilitates the cascade to allow this timetable change to take place would be welcomed.

Doesn’t matter to me! I was merely questioning that the poster was implying that the 385s would enter service in December because of that article.

I agree though, anything would be better than nothing!

Surely unless a new curved screen can be made avoiding a modification to the cab front Dec 18 has to be for the substitute not remediated 385s.

Remember that, as stated above, these pictures show the cab in a "closed" state ie coupled intermediate. When at the leading end the right hand wall swings out over the gangway like the 380's, creating a much more spacious cab. It's not that bad. (Excepting the windscreen issue which is that bad)

I am a lay person but I note that a Class 90 has visited Queen Street recently and wonder how this is possible in the absence of electro-magnetic testing that people seem to be saying is required before 365s can be brought in?

Assuming a long delay in introducing the 385s is the answer this:
Transfer the spare 365s to Greater Anglia but maintained at Hornsey. This releases 321s which go to Scotland as 3 cars, releasing 380s to cover. Simpler for Scotland and keeps the 365s where the expert staff are for maintenance.

in principle, yes, and has already been happening. However there's only so many diagrams that are suitable (or politically acceptable) for deploying 320s so there's not too many 380s that can be released, certainly not enough to cover the E&G requirement.

Are the 315's currently heading for scrap not suitable as a stopgap. Look identical to 314's
K

These aren't available yet. Class 345s as 7 cars were supposed to replace them but the 7 car versions are now heading operate Paddington to Hayes and Harlington services instead as the bay at Hayes doesn't fit a nine carriage Class 345 I believe. The Class 315s staying longer on GE to compensate.

However the Class 315s would be similiar to Class 314s so could displace Class 380s to E&G for wahat looks like the foreseeable future. Some Class 315s may become available from West Anglia depending how Class 710 construction is coming along.

Concerning 365s presumably working in pairs they don't fit at Glasgow Queen Street hence why a pair of Class 380s are formed of a 4 car and a 3 car version so how would this be solved? (I guess 1x Class 365 would be insufficient capacity on the E&G at peak times.)

The 365 is a shorter carriage. 20m compared to the 23m of the 380’s. so an 8 car 365 should just fit.

According to Wikipedia 8 315's are off lease and on this thread https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/class-315-withdrawals.153008/page-5 are in warm storage at Wolverton.
