    Stations with water refill points

A shame about Euston's as it hasn't been working for some time. Avanti installed a water refill point (chilled and very refreshing) at Stafford last month.

    Avanti Manchester-London evening services withdrawn

Interesting thanks - I'd missed that thread

    Avanti Manchester-London evening services withdrawn

Avanti seems to have recently withdrawn the 1755, 1855 and 1955 up services off Piccadilly - cancelled in the weekday timetable (outside of engineering works) until week beginning 11th Sept. Is this is a summer alteration or merely a result of the ongoing staff shortage? I'm fairly sure these...

DOWN UNDER with TT-ONR-NRN (+ other overseas ventures)

Very interesting, thanks. 10AUD is indeed very cheap for the whole of Victoria

Trivia: Slowest and fastest services on UK rail network

Roger Ford actually had an article in this month's MR (pg34) on the increasing number of trains scheduled to run 100mph+ (now 494 services per day). Fastest services in 2023 are Ashford to Ebbsfleet on HS1 (averages 111.4mph) and one STA-WFJ up express from MAN (108.9mph)

DOWN UNDER with TT-ONR-NRN (+ other overseas ventures)

I'm a bit late to the party here but having looked through the reports over the past few days it sounds like you've had a wonderful time Down Under. What lovely scenery you've been spoiled with. And it's fascinating to see how affordable public transport is with Opal - is this a recurring...

    Improved service on strike day

I surprisingly discovered today London Northwestern Railway announcing that they will run 2tph on their Liverpool - Birmingham route during the RMT strike on Saturday 13th May. Of course, this is only in the middle of the day and services still start earlier / finish later than usual, but it...

    "Through" trains which aren't!

Porto to Vigo must be recent indeed as it was a "real" through train last August i.e. the same unit. I do hope CP has improved the offering from a 3-car DMU. TrainOSE in Greece applied this practice at the beginning of the month on the Piraeus-Athens line. To my surprise, all passengers...

No Standard Premium on Avanti Voyagers - policy on cancellations

Amidst the general chaos of all the Avanti cancellations at the moment, it would seem that the company has no policy (or none communicated to staff on the ground) for what happens if a passenger has a Standard Premium ticket for a Pendolino service which is then cancelled, and the next available...

    Duplicate Bus Services

Also in Staffordshire, and during Covid restrictions, Arriva ran duplicates on since-replaced service 825 Stafford to Lichfield. I recall seeing them in around June 2020 (presumably only on peak time services) and before frequency on the corridor was restored to two buses per hour in (I think) July.

    Bus Manufacturer News & Discussion

Not any more from the sound of it. www.miltonkeynes.co.uk/news/people/could-milton-keynes-be-britains-first-fully-electric-bus-town-1426117 “ For the past five years, Milton Keynes has had eight electric buses operating here. They ran on Route 7, covering 15 miles between Wolverton and...

XC services allocated for Double Voyagers

Could it be down to today’s (and last Sunday’s) diversion via Nuneaton, as reversal required there to use Trent valley?

Athens to Patras railway rebuilding progress

Again, it's really no problem. I wish you the best of luck in having a pleasant trip in 2021 - hopefully it will be a bit simpler to plan for then than now! 1603134426 Just for a bit more detail about the project, I have found this article from RGI (in depth, focuses on the whole of Greece rail...

Athens to Patras railway rebuilding progress

No problem. Hope this helps, and yes, does still require a bus ride; it actually looks like it might still be quicker on the bus if you changed modes at Kiato, but that's not got quite the same appeal as rail. :D I think the extensions are being done in a piecemeal fashion, and I've not seen...

Athens to Patras railway rebuilding progress

Yes, the railway line was indeed extended from Kiato to Aigio, and opened this summer for passengers. It is unelectrified though, so on some trains a transfer is required at Kiato if continuing to Athens. Modern Railways nicely sums up the opening (August 2020, pg 88), although if you don't have...

    Under/Over-Served areas in the network.

Could well be possible in the future, as the new fleet of metrocars (unlike the current ones) won't require double-blocking, so in theory trains will be able to run closer together

Trivia: Smallest towns with more than one station

On the West Highland line, after it diverges at Crianlarich. I think the gradients are quite steep, hence the names Upper Tyndrum and Tyndrum Lower.

Trivia: Smallest towns with more than one station

Tyndrum perhaps? Two stations, population 167 according to google (although not exactly a town).
