Been in Edinburgh all day. On a 170 down for Inverses this morning, was Ok but pretty grotty, looks like cleaning standards are slipping, suppose they will be short of staff too? Arriving at Haymarket we stopped next to a classic HST looking at it it was in pretty poor shape you could see visible corrosion on the coach doors were corroded, bit of a mess. I am assuming someone picked the best coaches out of the ones off lease?

On the way up on the LNER HST. We left wavily alongside a train for Perth which was absolutely rammed to the door. People were pushing on the platform at Haymarket to get on it. the HST we were on had loads of seats. Passing haymarket there were 4 classic sets and a refurb sitting there. AS the weather improves and tourists start to appear Scotrail are going to get roasted by the public if they don't get these trains working and capacity up.

The training excuse is woefully thin now.

I see. So I make a perfectly valid point about ScotRail’s HST knowledge and practice vs practice elsewhere and it’s about me? Touched a nerve did I?

They have not. Much over the last couple of pages untrue or just a guess.

Can't be long before Scotland catches up with a new form of traction - look on the bright side

The refurbished HSTs in Cornwall have been brilliant - putting the DFT ordered S-H1tachis to shame

Nah, no nerve topuched, just would like to think a TOC has a reason for proceduure over a layman. If not a layman then appologies but confirm

Hmm. The few refurbished sets Scotrail have in service currently have received a lot of praise on social media. The sooner more leave Doncaster and complete their training, the better things will be for Scotrail and the relationship they have with the passengers.

Which services were these? From what I've heard (second hand so to be taken with a pinch of salt) there were a very large number of HSTs out today compared to 'normal'. In particular you say you left Haymarket on your LNER HST to Inverness alongside a Scotrail service bound for Perth - one assumes the 16:34 from Edinburgh to Perth? In that case this service is definitely booked for a unit (I've used it before and it's a busy one).

Somewhat off topic but the 1634 is rammed as it's that last off-peak train of the afternoon, as is the 1624 to Tweedbank - similarly rammed.

It may be this thread or one in the Allocations, Diagrams and Timetables section that the Scotrail HST sets are labelled "HAxx", with HA meaning the depot code for Haymarket if I am not mistaken?

If so, then would that make their main home being at Haymarket, similar as to how the Intercity East Coast HSTs have their main home at Edinburgh Craigentinny (EC)?

Any chance of any more Refurbs leaving Wabtec soon, this month, this year, this decade!? At this rate we'll be lucky to get barely 10 done....

The set numbers may be HAxx, but the trailers still have Inverness as their home depot on the system, in much the same way as GWR have ‘OC’ set numbers that are allocated to Laira.

HA23 is still in Inverness. It’s inside the CSMD long road. Confirmed by the Mk1 eyeball this afternoon

In that case what are we at then?

    One refurb in Glasgow
    One refurb in Inverness
    Two in service

And presumably none in Perth then?

Noticed this on LNER's Twitter page this morning, is this true or is the LNER Twitter team getting their own sets mixed up with the ex-GWR sets that have gone to ScotRail?

Could see no refurb in Inverness this week. Been through the station twice.

Status of the refurbished sets at 1400 today:
    HA23 on exam at Inverness
    HA24 serviceable at Haymarket
    HA25 serviceable at Eastfield
    HA26 serviceable at Haymarket

Only HA25 and HA26 are out today, both on staff training runs.

Any news about the next set out of Doncaster, and how things are coming along at Kilmarnock?

Do they not try to have one refurb in passenger service or is that only if possible then?

I believe HA26, which was in service last week, had developed numerous faults and has been taken out of passenger service. I’m sure it was on Sunday it ran an Aberdeen to Haymarket, presumably so that these faults could be rectified at Haymarket depot.

According to a photo on Facebook, there's a fifth refurbished set formed up in the yard at Doncaster and pretty much ready to go; currently hooked up to a shore supply so they're presumably testing onboard electrical systems.

I thought Scotrail were just getting ex GWR HSTs, and not LNER ones, but I may be wrong about that. I'm not great at keeping up with these things. If so would they replace all the Turbostars?

Must be getting mixed up with GWR surely?

That would explain it. Although where will the LNER sets go? scrap? Either that or museums/preservation.

Been various proposals for preservation, charter operators etc.

Most will likely meet the cutters torch though, sad but inevitable.

That's what I thought too which is why I wanted to check on here whether there was any truth in that post on LNER's Twitter feed or if the Twitter team had got their own HSTs mixed up with the ones that GWR have sent to ScotRail.

    Surely a mix-up?

I can't see ScotRail leasing anymore HSTs except in the short term as cover.

While I remember, is there any truth in a statement I read in a railway magazine today that ScotRail will not be using any Classic sets post-December?
