    A career as a signaller

Your 'training rate' is applicable until you are passed out in your box by your manager. This is my own experience at a single manned location, not sure how it works in a ROC or similar. Thanks Mark

    Signalling school - York 5th September 2016

Hi, when I was at York late last year they were trialling a TCB only course to run side by side with the AB course, I guess it saves doing the 1 week conversion to TCB at the end but could limit you if you move to an AB box as the conversion course would take more than 1 week.

    A career as a signaller

Hi, another possibility regarding shift patterns is whether the box closes out overnight (not sure how common this is?) My hours are Early's: 0450-1400, and Lates: 1400-0015 Sunday hours are slightly different, 0830-1515 and 1515-2315 We get 4 days off at the end of a run of 6-7 shifts with...

Also the hiring manager doesn't have to wait for you to get a place/complete signalling school!

Signalling School York 13th June 2016

Hi, I went to York towards the end of last year. Great facilities and staff. They have both lever frame and NX panel simulators. It's a 5 min walk from the station so convenient too. Enjoy!!!

Successful Signaller Application - Help Needed

Hi, first off congratulations on your successful application. I can't help you on the local area questions but regarding the rule book, its best left for school as you can tie yourself up with the terminology and wording. The bell codes are a good start to learn (even some of them). A good...

    NR track op application (unsuccessful)

Hi, I applied for many jobs in different departments, maintenance (track, signal, off track, overhead line), also a few positions as a signaller. Some didn't even get a look in, some got further. It does depend on everyone else who has applied and where your score ranks with theres. I had no...

There was one guy in my Signalling School class that had started as a Crossing keeper, moved onto Track Maintenance, then a Signaller.

    Signaller Jobs

Hi, as others have said the recruitment process can be long winded but if in any doubt contact HR for any updates. I'm currently at signalling school and the age range in my class is 23 - 50 so no worries about that. They look for people who can demonstrate Network Rails 8 Non Technical...

    Signalling School Dec Intake

Hi, currently at York and have just finished week 3. It definitely does ramp up in week 3!! I found that week 1 centred around Non Technical Skills/Diversity and Inclusion and NR's Lifesaving rules with an introduction to signalling. Week 2 introduced more procedures and regulations with week...

    Operative online test

Hi Mark, I think you usually have 7 days in which to complete the online tests so HR would have to wait until at least 7 days after the close date for the job for the last results to be in. It will then depend on the volume of applicants etc I would look at approx. 7-10 days after close...

    Signaller Application Questions

Hi Goggy, I am booked to start Signalling school on the 12th October and was told that it will be in York. I continued with my old job whilst all the paperwork etc was going through and whilst waiting for a start date. My manager called me up to arrange this for induction and school so I...

    Signaller assessment query

Hi, paper for taking notes was provided by the tester and could be used in most of the tests (except the one where you have to read a passage then answer questions on it to test your memory). Most of the time all the info you need is there in front of you.

    Signaller assessment query

Hi, I wore a suit and tie to mine, as did others but some were in open collar shirt with trousers and no jacket. All the assessments are paper based, some accompanied with audio. The practice booklet should outline all the exercises for you. Good luck Mark

    Off track maintenance position

Hi, welcome to the forum!! I have had a few applications through NR on the go and it can be a lengthy process. I also have an app that has been on the same status since that date (Off Track Stoke?). From reading up in the archives it isn't unusual to have a wait between stages especially...
